Just wondering x

Truthfully, when I moved back from overseas 10 years ago, I knew before I left it was a mistake (I was happy, loved where I was living and had a great job) and it took me 2 years till I finally was ok with it (and it was only when I met my now hubby, who is an Aussie hence our move next year). I knew I was never going to be back here permanently and if I had not met my hubby, South America was calling me and I'd have been off over there for a while. And then probably gone back to mainland Europe and settled again. Or New Zealand.
quite a few people, some go back and forth a few times before finally coming to a decision. Sometimes you need to go back to see if the thought you had were real. Time has a way of dulling bad memories and rousing up the good.
Sailed SS Australis out of Southampton 1977.Arrived October in Adelaide via Melbourne 1977.Liverpool/London 1987 - 1992
Adelaide 1992 to eternity:)and one day you'll wake up and stop counting how long you've been here.
[QUOTE=snifter;226939]lol you've not left yet
Personally I could not imagine wanting to come back, just was wondering if people who came back only then realise why they leave a place in the first place (if this makes sense lol).
No, but have been back to the UK on a visit and thought about staying there!
Are yous thinking of going home Paula? We are as a family I think its for the best, sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side...x
Really interested to hear your reasons.

It can be a little troublesome reading all the going home threads. I try to do it too so that way I feel like I've really researched the good and bad.
What I generally have found though is that:
1) These type of threads really attract those going home which leads to a very heated, over biased opinion
2) People going home normally do so for reasons such as, 'not feeling at home' and nothing to do with not liking Australia
3) We don't hear from the people that actually STAY in Oz on threads normally because they're too busy working, enjoying the time with family etc to be posting on their time off!
So what you're left with are for the most part people who really want to emigrate, people who are in the process, and people who want to move back. Misery (or maybe impatience, longing and questions) loves company!
Having said all that I love this site, much more than PIO where the arguments are much worse. I recently had someone say to me, 'don't worry, you'll learn and be back one day yourself then you'll see'.
I really hope that s not the case. We've both said that we're sticking at it no matter what happens....
Oh and I also find some of the comments so harsh about Australians. Someone over in Poms In Oz implied they have no sense of humour (alongisde many other comments) which I find plain insulting and to be honest, as an immigrant, we have no right criticising the way other people run their lives in their own country. Plus, our Australian friends are some of the funniest, salt of the earth people you'll ever meet!
P.s. My finger hurts. That was a LONG post for a phone!!
