There are two lasting bequests that we can hope to give our children - one of those is roots: the other is wings!

Damn, and just when I was going to advertise my son's outgrown cricket bat up for sale!!
Quite agree with Tyke and the others though - it's a community rather than a market place, so if you come along, join the community, and contribute something - even if it's just an introduction and a hello - then fine, but don't just sneak in, sell you stuff then run off never to be seen again....bit like Delboy and Rodney!!
Sometimes the grass will appear greener on the other side because it has been fertilised by bull****
But on the other hand if you can get something you need at a reasonable price ....
I have to admit I was a bit surprised by the reaction of the mods.
There are some posters on here who just come on to get advice and never contribute anything else.
I have to admit I quite like the for sale section.. times are tough.
As a person that has only ever posted items for sale, I thought I'd chip in my two cents....
I have been browsing these forums for a while but never felt the need to contribute, and i am sure there are others like me.
I decided to post items for sale before I return to the UK as I have experienced first hand moving to Australia and appreciate how difficult it can be. Had I been aware of a resource such as this website things would have been much easier!!
But my point is that I would rather have the opportunity to help out someone out who is in a similar position that I was in.
There may well be people posting things to clear clutter but if it helps people then is it really such a bad thing??
A way of deleting threads when the items are sold would be really useful though.
I dont see why there cannot be a separate section made for people selling there unwanted items, we all know how expensive it is moving to Adelaide & then all the other costs involved, when we come back over, we will be needing a car etc so it would have been useful to just come onto PIA and see who was selling what I am looking for. Just my opinion
I use a hifi forum & most of these forums do have a classifieds section. When you have been on there for a while you get to know who's who even though you may not know them in person. Many of the users sell items when they are changing or upgrading their systems & I have bought and sold from them saving myself a lot of money. It means if you are in doubt about how trustworthy they are, you can ask if they have sold to other members & then contact them for a reference, and you can see their selling and posting history if you want to look. It's all part of a very useful forum. You tend not to trust people who just come on the forum & place an advert, but of course its always 'buyer beware'.
In many ways, I feel happier buying stuff from the forum members than using ebay, paypal etc where there are so many scams in operation plus it means no charges!
I'd like to see a classifieds section on here - there are people who need to buy or sell things 2nd hand & why not, but I do understand the problems mentioned in posts above & nobody wants to see it turning into gumtree.
Perhaps there is a way you can restrict who can post in a classifieds section?
*sniff sniff* I'm still curious what borolady was selling. It might be something I want;)
US -> UK -> NZ -> OZ
I feel this is unfair. So do people just have to say a silly comment to get their posts up???
You can't judge what a person is like and whether they are trustworthy based on the number of posts
Maybe people read behind the scenes and don't feel like contributing - there is often a backlash when someone does and at times the forum isn't as friendly as its made out.
I would rather buy from someone on here than Gumtree - I think we all have one thing in common and to help out I thought was one of the main reasons the forum existed.
I have helped people out I don't know from adam and I have done that because I know how they feel regardless whether they are moderators, senior members or otherwise
I don't think that it's right to discriminate against a person who may have only posted twice, etc, considering some of the rubbish that gets posted!
Then maybe you shouldn't have this section at all.
