  1. Hi all Im 31 and been living in Adelaide for a few years now after moving over with my ex boyfriend from the UK, and have met lots of great girlfriends, however all of them are coupled up! Any girls out there in Adelaide willing to meet up for drinks/nights out/enjoying the single life???
  2. It depends on how quickly you complete the peer course and then complete your three month log book, he had his in about 5 months but it wasn't easy getting the log book done. Peer is really the best place to start as they sort of take you through the whole process and then sign off your light book. Once they have signed this off you take that with your restricted license and then they give you your unrestricted. Good luck in finding employment, you may be lucky and come across someone in peer looking for someone
  3. Hi I'm a social worker and moved here 2 years ago (child protection). Social work is currently on the skills list and I obtained my permanent residency with those skills. I've never had an issue with getting work, however I would avoid government positions as they are even worse than in UK, and its easy to avoid as the NGO sector here is pretty big. You also must have your skills assessed which costs $1000 and you can only get a positive assessment if you have a degree in social work. Hope that helps!
  4. Hi terry I thought I would reply seeing as we found ourselves in the same nightmare position last year. After you get your supervised license, you need to do the uoskill course at peer, if you apply through skills for all the course will be free if you have permanent residency but you have to pay for books. My boyfriend did his last year and just by luck managed to find a company willing to take him on in order to get the three montj of book done however employers are not that willing to take you on with a restricted license. If you have any questions let me know, as I said we know how it feels when it seems so difficult just to get work!
  5. Hi all My partner is currently completing his three month log book to get his electrical license after completing all the gap training at peer. Unfortunately he is really struggling to complete this as its not clear what is expected from him in terms of what needs to be in the log book and supporting evidence. The guy at peer is not being very helpful! So if anyone has any advice as to what the log book should look like or may be able to share a sample of theirs that would be hugely appreciated! Lisa
  6. Hi all I'm in Glenelg been here since last October and looking to make some friends! Missing Scottish accents around me! I'm nearly 30 living with my boyfriend but really want to meet other girls! Give me a shout or pm if anyone is up for meeting
  7. Hi Kenny Yeah he will. If your doing it the same time as him you will likely need your books then! His name is Cormac. I think we may have managed to source the books fingers crossed!
  8. Hi Carl I wondered if you had any advice for my partner? He is an Irish electrician who has had seven years experience in the trade. We came here a year ago and he worked as a laborer until we could afford to apply for permanent residency. Now that we have that he needs to try and get his a grade license, he has a restricted one and is going to donthr ten day up skills course required next week. He issue we have is not being able to find an employer willing to take him on even as a trade assistant in order to get his three month log book completed! Do you have any suggestions or know of any companies that may be worth a try? Thanks
  9. Hi kenny Have you had any luck yet? My partner is in the same position, electrician in Ireland for ten years, and is just about to do Peer upskilling course however cannot find any employment with restricted license in order to complete log book! Really frustrating, and he has had to take really manual jobs just for a wage. Also does anyone have to hand second hand copies of the Australian standard references needed for the Peer course for sale? Thanks
