My dad recently told me about how it is not illegal to drink and drive in south australia (only place in auz and possible the world) aslong as your not over the limit(which is higher here than in the rest of auz). I was wondering if anyone new why this is allowed i mean its illegal to walk your dog and ride a bike at the same time but drink driving is fine?!!!!!

Does anybody else have view on this?

Alecia:confused:

Also i have been told ( and don't hold me to it ) APPARANTLY if you lose your liscence for drink driving and you need your liscence for work then you are allowed to drive between agreed times so you don't lose your job.:goofy:

It's an old law, thats why it's allowed.

Being over the limit means you will loose de merit points, not an instant ban like the UK.

Hit something and someone and your in a completely different ball park!

BAZ your going to struggle in SA then.

Regular drug and drink road stops by police. Lots caught, lose some cash and a few points and away they go.

As long as they keep away from me :D everything will be fine.

i would be more worried about cars with P in the rear and front window. I think this must indicate "proffessional driver" some of the moves they pull will take your breath away.

Not as much as the young lady took my breath away yesterday morning, after finishing her make up at the various sets of lights on main north road, and screaming away from the lights in her little beep beep, i was amazed to see her spark up a ciggy and then the smoke came billowing out of all 4 wheels as she nearly screamed into the back of a truck. One clever driver she was, whits about tried to access my lane. After second thoughts and dropping her lit ciggy she exited stage right and took to the grass backwards just outside of pooraka airport.

Proffessional drivers me arse!

Two guys taking a drink from a bottle on the way home in a work ute on a friday evening....... no worries!

It's the original "one for the road" - yes drinking a stubby on the way home is quite common to see. Where this sits against the "due care and attention" they sting you with if they catch you taking a bite out of a sanger or a swig of coffee whilst driving I'm not exactly sure...

As others have said, some of the driving leaves a lot to be desired - above or below 0.05 :(

:)When you go to the drive in's and they put the carton in the boot ....ask for a roadie........see what you get....they will open the carton and off you go with beer in hand, is there any harm in ONE at the wheel, no different to a coke......go on try it on a roasting hot day on the way back from work ......its great....lol:biglaugh:

It is a little boggling - i regularly drive home with my 'blonde' in hand...but i only have the one.

Wouldnt drink & drive (as in more than 2/3 beers) as i know the stupidity of it but i must admitt i am stunned at the amount of people (ozzies at that) who drink way too much and then drive home.

Doing it sensibly (the ozzie way) and following the 1 an hour guidelines means you can go out and drink - just not get ****faced!

you have to remember the drinking culture is not the same.

Tell most in the UK they can do this and they would be blitzed.

Here they drink to socialise, Its not uncommon to have a beer or two at work on a friday afternoon after finishing work then driving home.

Difference is they dont drink here to get drunk, they drink one or two like a coffee, or a water. ITS JUST A DRINK

Culture change

Law is you P platers (learners-- probationery ) are allowed 0 tolerenze for drink driving , the rest are allowed up to 0.05 i think it is , which is a couple of snmall drinks an hour , depends on your own body, over that and its drink driving autamatic suspesion .

You can after losing your liscence apply for 1 point back to enable you to drive to work , get causght out for anything and lose that one point and i think the sentence doubles , not entirly shore on that but think so .

Bear in mind that they have random booze and drug tests , you can be pulled over now if they suspect you have been drinking , and the given nature of the south aussie govt , to constantly change (lower ) the speed limits, put speed camera's at the bottom of every hill , and hasve camera's at half the light in adelaide , the chances are they will catch you out , its a big big money spinner for the govt, you will quite often find that ANYONE who drives a lot will sooner or later end up applying for a point back , you lose a point and it stands for 3 years before you get it back , you lose 12 in 3 years and you lose your liscence, .

I myself travel along a 100 klm rd for years , and lost 2 points for 2 speed cameras on the same rd in one week , they changed the speed limit to 80 , put the sign up behind a bush and stuck a camera on the rd, , less than a year later they changed it again to 60 , no notice just changed the speed sign, once again behing a bush and once again had camera's at the bottom of the hill only at peak perids and always hidden , and once again got me on my way to work observing the limits from the week before ,

Total loss off 4 points . Don't worry there not that lax on drivers here they want the revenue
