advice on shipping companies

we have been asked to go for meds and get police checks! it seems like an age when we first applied back in March 09 Feeling v excited, nervous, all the emotions rolled into one, we can finally see our move taking shape

 

Can anyone offer advice on which company to get quotes for shipping over to Adelaide? We have finally made the decision to take pretty much everything, after reading loads of posts regarding the cost of stuff at the minute!

Not sure what the costs are like now as we moved here almost 2 years ago, but we used a company called 'Burke Brothers' who were based in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, but serviced all over England.

 

I can't rate them highly enough. The guys who did the final packing were so incredibly helpful and fast too. Not one thing was broken when we got here and because they have associate companies based in Adelaide it meant that they were there to help unpack everything too.

we arrived in adelaide on monday of this week. We are shipping most of our things as well and they won't be here for a while. We used Doree Bonner we had quotes from many other companies. We found Nick who came out really helphful and took the most time to explian the process and the different options open for us. We had a four bed house and apart from 3 wardrobes we have shipped everything and it cost us £3300.

Moving day way great two guys (ED, Jon) came and agin talked through everything and what the plan was. They wrapped everything really friendly. They took all our belongings the next day. We are groupage (which is a shared container) around 860 cubic feet we needed.

Hi Nick and Ali, John Mason are meant to be very good and competitive too, I had them out on monday but still waiting for the quote. Can I just ask what visa you have applied for and what category you were in?

Hi theclarkes, thanks for your post, we have John Mason as one of the companies to contact, I take it you are close to moving too? We applied for a 176 state sponsored perm res. We didn't realise at the time that it was the longest one to process, however, will be well worth it in the end.

Ali is a Nurse, she secured a job after our reccie visit in March last year and we reckon that this has helped to speed up the process a little?

thanks everyone for your quick responses and useful posts. We are hoping to get all our furniture in a shared space (we have got a fairly small 3 bed house) so hopefully quotes wont be too astronomical, but then again, mmmm migrating isn't cheap (coming from a typical Yorkshire fella!

We have quotes from PSS, Whites, Crowns, John Mason and Bonner (they weren't the cheapest, but offered the most and their insurance worked out better). We picked these five to get quotes after doing research here and British expats. They were all around the same mark, except Whites who were really expensive. We are taking everything but the kitchen sink and its going to be a tight squeeze into a 20ft container!

We came over here over 2 years ago now....and we uased a company called GB Liners they were very very good....had no issues at all with anything....

Read your post, very helpful, thank you. Do you mind me asking 'roughly' how much the total cost that is involved in having a 20' container and what is included in the service ?

We are in the early stages of our visa application, but I am trying to look at the costs that will be involved.

We have just had Doree Bonner out to give us a quote and they were really helpfull and took a lot of time to answer ALL of our questions.

The quote came back about £3400 for a 20ft container and £2200 for groupage, think we will be going with the groupage route.

Insurances will add to this though and work out about 1.5% of our valuation of the goods + total loss insurance if the ship goes down.

 

Can I ask Nick, are you newly qualified as NQT?

My wife, Nicola has just graduated but has not yet started her NQT year.
