Car Insurance

Hi All

We are looking into bringing my car with us - it seems like quite a good option. But can anyone advise if they had trouble insuring their imported car? And can anyone recommend an insurance company that I could contact to get some quotes?

Don't want to go through all that trouble and not be able to insure. Its a BMW 330 6 years old - if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Tricia

Hiya. I don't know about imported cars but everyone at work uses the RAA. Apparently not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Also if you get their roadside assistance (like the AA or RAC) you get a discount on your insurance. They do house insurance and stuff as well and the more policies you have the bigger the discount.

I would imagine that the insurance would be the same as your car will have to be converted to SA rego plates and will have to have a roadworthy test before it is given the all clear. We wish dearly that we would have brought our BMW1 series as we couldn't possibly afford to buy one here they are so expensive compared to over there!!!

Thats what we thought. I looked to see what we would get here for our car and converted to $s to see what we could get over there and it doesn't compare - especially since we've had the car since new. I think knowing the history of your car goes a long way whatever the country.
