Hi Everyone

we have booked to come over 21 April 2012 (yippee)but before this are going to Melbourne to visit family and wondered if anyone could help with information on buying a car. I know we have to change our licence but not sure if you get a period of time before having to do that so is it possible to buy a car in Melbourne then drive to Adleiade where we would change our licence. Maybe there is another way around this but trying to save on not having a rental and would like to be up and running as soon as we arrive.

So excited now we have finally booked our short term rental, we all can't wait for this new adventure.

Thanks for any help I have read how helpful you all and are finding this site fantastic.

Thanks again

Marie, Alan, Amelia, Eva and Sammy (cockapoo)

Hi

If looking to buy car in Melbourne I suggest you look at
www.carsales.com.au
to first of all locate the car you want. Then about your licence look up this link from Motor registration department and give them email to help sort things out. They are very helpful depending on the person you get.

Hope this helps

If you buy a car in Melbourne it will have a Vicoria rego when you come over to SA and the rego runs out you will more than likly have to put your car into regency to get it checked over before you will be able to register it in SA. If anything wrong with it you will have to get it fixed before you will be able to get it registerd.Should be ok if its a newish car.If its a bomb could be trouble and you have an 8 hour drive from Melbourne to Adelaide.

If it a bomb lets say less than $5000 dollars then Regency will have a look at it. But if it is a newish car then there are no problems. cars that are older in Victoria now need a certificate of registration, so ask for this. this is to make sure it is road worthy. But certificate does not hold up in SA unfortunately. Always get car checked out by authorised people. In Melbourne RACV in SA-RAA
