Buying a car

Hi

 

I'm moving to Adelaide (Brighton area) this August, I have a hire car for the first 2 weeks but then need to buy something suitable for a family (2 adults 1 child and a dog) I have been thinking of a Toyota HiLux with crew cab or something similar as I hear they can be quite expensive. Hoping to pick something up around 3 years old...

 

So I was wondering whats the best makes/models to consider and best place to buy (dealer or private)
