"Help!!"..... who do i use for shipping

Hi all,

 

I Fully move to Adelaide in December and need to send my stuff over in a container BUT I seem to be having problems getting quotes

 

The main problem is I am bringing my work tools and althou they only take the space of a 3 seater sofa they do weight the same as a small car, other than tools There isn't much as we sold and scraped most of the old furniture.

 

Does anyone know or had a good experience with a shipping company??

 

Im kinda getting abit worried as Im trying to get everything sorted so my next journey to Adelaide will be the last for a while and i don't have to come back to soon to finish off sending stuff

Hi if you need your stuff arriving quickly try the excess baggage company. We used these guys as we had excess and it worked out alot cheaper than what you get charged at the airport, our stuff arrived a week after us. If your looking at a part container you could be looking at upto 16 wks for your stuff to arrive in Adelaide from when they take it for you. We used John mason and we didn't have any problems with them for our furniture.

I used Anglo Pacific and they were fine. It was a "part shipment" though which meant I shared a container so it took slightly longer as they only ship when they're full. If you have your own container its quicker but also more expensive.

 

A lot of people use Doree Bonner and reckon they're pretty good.

That,s basically all I shipped over my tools & I used Crown Shipping (shared container) like the others have put it took about 16wks all in all, just make sure you log ever tool you have. I got all my tools across ok thousands of pounds worth, but some body liked me Addias Samba trainers better than me!!

Thanks for the great rresponse, I have taken some advice which is find someone local to view what you have for a proper quote as otherwise things get lightly packed and you find you have used more space than needed and suddenly the quote is a small amount compared to the bill.

 

I have britania removal coming to view first... has anyone used them?

On a similar note, is there a weight limit on shipping? I'm wanting to ship out my record collection, this would be hard boxed in mdf cases but will weight about the same as a car or two plus furnishings on top again with some heavy solid wood items.

I'm pretty sure it goes on volume not weight but if I'm wrong I'm sure someone on here will correct me!

Yes it is by volume, but a carton is not allowed to exceed 30kg.

Carton = box? Ie 30kg for lifting purposes? That maybe an issue for furnishings however records would be boxed in say 100's at circa 20kg inc box with about 40 of them at the moment!

We used Dorree Bonner and had no problems uk end. Our stuff has arrived at port and is being inspected this Tuesday so will keep you posted. We had a full container which took 8 weeks in total.

Me and my wife are looking to move in January and I have the same concerns about my record collection. I talked to some shipping companies and they insisted on packing themselves, otherwise they cannot guarantee the safety (can they anyway?). Also, how do you put a value on a collection (for insurance purposes) of rare/out of press records, that you collected throughout the years??

Are you looking to ship them separately or together with everything else?

Yes carton=box and yes, I think it's for lifting purposes. I am sure they'll have different regulations for furniture etc, but when it comes to boxes/cartons I think most shipping companies have these regulations.

If the machinery is really heavy (industrial size) you might have to involve another company to hoist the goods into the container. I have used a similar company here in Adelaide for moving my bakery's machinery, but don't know who might be able to assist in the UK. Maybe you need a specialist shipping company for your machinery and can use part container for your household goods?
