Shipping a Hoover?

Hi everyone.

 

I have been on this site browsing but not put a post on for a while!

 

We have given shipping another fresh consideration and worked out a list of what stuff to take and what to sell. It is not that easy to sell things but Really trying now to get some more cash.

 

I am not sure if it is worth shipping a dyson Hoover, it is a few years old but seems to work ok and should have a good few more years in it. Just considered that the Hoover will cause big problems and expense at customs due to dirt or dust. I will empty it out and give it a wipe out and pull all hairs out but how strict are they and what sort of costs can we expect so to decide if worth bringing?

Hi! We've shipped ours... except... we forgot to clean it out or empty the bag so in around 2 weeks time we'll let you know how much we've been stung for! If you give it a clean and empty the bag etc. then you should be fine bringing it out. Just don't do what we did!!

Change the filters too

Hi, we shipped our dyson vac over with us, just gave it a good clean out, didn't change the filters and like with everything else gave it a good wipe with the jeyes fluid. Apparently if they smell the jeyes fluid at customs they know you've made an effort.

We had our Dyson Vac serviced before we left and had new filters fitted - also wiped over with Jeyes - no probs!

Definitely keep your dyson! they cost a fortune here, and there is a great dyson repairer place that will keep it going forever. (PLus they are british!). I didn't even use Jeyes on mine, I just literally washed it all, rinsed the filters, and rinsed the pipe as well as cleaning the attachment. No probs, and it's been serviced / mended twice here in 4 yrs and still going well. Can't beat it.

There is so much hype about wooden and garden items and quarantine it is a joke! Most stuff just needs a good clean and coat in jeyes! I really wish I brought more of my garden tools now knowing what I do now! To the OP clean it and don't give it a second thought. Customs like camping stuff and Christmas decos like SAPOL do speeders! EASY MONEY!

The bigger named vacuum cleaners we found very expensive $400-$600 or upto $700 for an upright. Dysons were selling in the region of $800 and they were different to the UK models. We had a Dyson in the UK and wish we had brought it.

 

We did end up buying a cheap one from K-Mart for $90 and it does the job but just not in the same league as the Dyson. We originally stayed with relatives for 6 months and they had an Oz Dyson and i did'nt think much of that either on comparison and certainly not worth the $800!

We brought our Dyson, gave it a quick clean (but no Jeyes - nothing of ours got any and no probs).
