Daughter Requires a Job

My daughter Shannon aged nearly 17 years old, she has already completed 6 months of an hairdressing apprenticeship whilst in the UK. After being here for five weeks in Adelaide. Shannon is now getting bored and has no friends or any socialising funds/money. Therefore she is after a suitable job, either in a shop, or, in a hairdressers, or, a office junior role. She did mention she would like to be a dentist assistant.

Just wondering if anyone has any employment opportunities for her. We all have jobs and she is stuck in all day everyday. I feel for her.

We hope to hear from you very soon????

Get her to put together a good resume (CV) and take it round in person to any place she'd be interested in working - even if they're not advertising any vacancies. They ask for Resumes here (sorry can't work out my "e acute" to get the accent!) even for kids applying for Saturday jobs in supermarkets, so if she does some work on that, obviously focussing on her "people" skills and customer service etc, I'm sure she'll be snapped up.

Fingers crossed for her anyway.

or she could go back to school into yr 11 and enrol in some fun subjects, make some friends etc. At nearly 17 she would easily fit into our yr 11. She could take work oriented subjects (VET ) subjects that can lead to employment. It should cost you zilch if she does it at school as opposed to elsewhere. One of my daughter's friends got a job after doing one of the vocational subjects in a restaurant in a pub. She may not want to go back to school, but if she gets a job she can always leave as she is above the leaving age and it would give her some time to make friends of her own age. Most 16 yo are still at school here at least until the end of yr 11.

Rachel I have tried my utmost to get her to go back school, coming from the social aspects of it as well. But she will not entertain it all. I have even offered her $100 a week to go back and she still refuses. I have had fellow girls to talk to her about going to their school, but still no luck.
