Hi

I've just started the process of applying for state sponsorship, with applying for visa as soon as get ss, and am trying to make some links at hospitals. I've been trying to email some but the emails arent seeming to be working.

I've got just over 18 months experience as a registered general nurse and have worked on an acute medical ward specialising in gastoenterology for this time.

Anyone got any recommendations on hospitals etc that they have worked for.

Its a stressful process, especially getting the reference from my current manager (took 4 months) but it'll be worth all the waiting.

Thanks

Gday Leemina.

Just curious if your a nurse why bother with state sponsorship, why not go down the PR visa route.

As i said just curious.

I totally agree, my wife is a nurese and opted for the PR route, It has big advantages and doesnt tie you too one hospital. A friend of ours did the SS visa then hated the hospital he worked for but was tied too them for two years.

We have just applied for state sponsopship and we are a Dr and a nurse!!! The goalposts are set as such that some people are not elibible for the 175 visa, even if you are on the CSL list!!!

Our application is a bit different though in that we already live and work in Adelaide therefore we have already fulfilled most of the crietria set out by SA. We still have to questions in the same way, but have to instead prove how we have integrated into the community and how we live here in SA. It was really tricky to answer some of the questions such as employment research outside of your nominated occupation when we know we already have long , stable contracts and have no need to look into this!!!!!! I have to say though that the guy at immigration SA was fantastic and went through the whole application with me on the phone. So if you struggle, give them a ring. Also please be aware that if your application and supporting documents have not been recieved by the 14th May 2010 your application will not be processed until at least the end of the year, as they are not accepting new apllications til 1st July. This is to process the backlog of forms they have recieved while they have moved offices. Any forms recieved before then will have a definate decision by 20th June.

I dont have enough points for PR because of only having 18mnths experience, I would have had more if i'd had 3 out of past 4yrs experience, but heigh ho. So SS is the route for me or I'd have to wait another 18mnths and I dont think my head would cope with that. I wont be tied to a particular hospital (isnt that employer sponsored??), and am currently filling in the form online. We have distant relatives in Adelaide and have been in touch with them so hopefully that will be a plus point for us.

We're aware of the 14th May date and thats why we're finishing the application this weekend, we've got all the supporting documents and just hope that the flight situation at the moment wont delay the documents getting there.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. Whats the job situation out there for nurses like at the mo, anyone know?

Thanks

Debbie

4 months for a reference???? how unprofessional. I am coming over in the next couple of months and asked my boss for a reference to bring with me. By the end of my shift she gave me my reference and 5 copies.

Wow, then you must have a really great boss!! My boss in the UK took almost 7 months before she coughed up with the goods, and we had long packed up and left for Aus by the time she finally eemailed it to me after me contacting her about a million times!!!!!

She has since refused to offer further references saying she has done me one and I sohuld use that, so what do I do for work references now???????? It's definatley a csae of out of sight out of mind.............
