Thanks for the replies - I did try that but didn't get very far - a job for tomorrow for sure ;)

In that case try googling back packers travel insurance, like I said lots of places do both so you could find the specialists by searching for backpackers and then look to see if they do one way. I think I also found something about it on a Money Expert type site as well. Good luck.

Hi I wasn't sure where to post this thread but wondering what other people did on their way out.

Need to get this sorted as only 9 more sleeps til we come over - yikes.

Thanks Karen and family x

Hi Karen_Jon:

Know how you feel, 'cos we have only 12 more sleeps, counting tonight!! Still can't believe we're actually going back to live!

We used Virgin Travel Insurance for our One-Way Travel cover. It cost £129.32 total for my husband and myself (and we're 72, so the premium was probably quite a bit higher than it would be for you, who sound a lot younger than us). The cover lasts four days, starting from the day we leave London (30 January '13). We arrive Adelaide on 1 Feb, by which time we'll know if all our luggage has arrived safely.; and if not, there's a couple of days in hand to contact Virgin to place a claim. That's all we need, so we're completely happy with that.

If you want to check them out, call Virgin on 0844 888 3900, and have a chat with Harley on extn 6601.

We've visited Adelaide 16 times since 1993 and haven't lost any luggage yet (although we've always taken out travel cover, just in case...) so fingers crossed it arrives okay this time, too!

I wish you well for 2013 and for your new life in Oz!

x

Hi Barbaitch - if you're regular travellers and live in the UK, which it sounds like you might be, it might be worth looking at getting a Saga Credit Card as I know that used to (hopefully still does) give free travel insurance. We use an ANZ Platinum Card here for exactly the same thing.

Hi Diane:

Thanks for letting me know about Saga. We don't have a credit card (altho' our bank keep on at us to get one for when we go to Adelaide because it's nought % commission on all spending for the first 12 months - but we've managed without one 'til now, so think we'll carry on as before, debt-free and, some might say: Clueless!!)

We'll be in Adelaide for at least three years this trip, as we're going back for our Citizenship - something we should have done many years ago during out 24 years living in Oz - so will check out Saga's credit card/travel insurance etc for next time we come back to Blighty. I do receive a Saga Newsletter every so often, so will have a good read at what's on offer for us oldies when the next one arrives. (To be honest, I usually delete it without reading it through. Mad, I know, but I always feel a bit 'dead' when that Saga email arrives!! And I'm not ready for my rocking chair just yet .....)

I've read a lot of your posts over the nearly twof years since I've been a member of PIO/PIA and always think you make a lot of sense in your posts (usually helping other people). I feel as though I know you, although obviously I don't...

I wish you well and hope 2013 is very kind to you and yours, Diane!! x
