Hopefully this is in the right place.

Any nurses out there. What are wages like for nurses in Adelaide? (I have 4 years experience back here in the UK)

I've applied for my 190 visa and hoping to be in Adelaide in September.

So now I'm trying to work out what job prospects will be like and what wages would be like so I can work out where I can afford to live.

What is your specialty? There are jobs of course but not as many as there are in other states.

I work for a non government organisation and really enjoy it. The people are great. I have found the Doctors to be far less superior (or up themselves) than UK Doctors and treat nurses with respect whereas many Drs believe themselves to be Gods in my UK experience!

Wages are better here and overall I have less responsibility for more money and you get paid approx 9% super (pension) on top of your wages which is great. My organisation also offer salary sacrificing which is a great way to save on tax.

I would look on http://www.seek.com.au or indeed.com.au for jobs.

Thanks for the reply. I have work in general surgery and urology. So nothing too specialised. I very much like the comment about doctors and more money! I'm assuming wages are incremental like they are in the UK from what I've read so guessing I'll start back at the bottom. But unlike UK job adverts Australian job adverts done seem to give wages.

Less jobs is okay. I only need 1 after all.

If you get proof of your incremental point then you should be able to negotiate year four pay. If you put salary parameters on the seek website it will only show the jobs paying between those. I'm not sure what you would get as I am an RN2 at the top of my band (top band 6 equiv), however you should be able to get the payscales from either ANMF or SA health websites.

I've finally found some ward jobs advertised, but is there any advice on what I need to include in my application to make me noticed as an international applicant? I'm assuming there will be lots of applicants for each job so want to make sure I get noticed.

Jobs in anything other than theatres/recovery or a nursing home seem to be more difficult to find than I thought they might be.

I put this reply on PIO.

Try SA Health and any other job site that advertises nurse jobs.It might take time but keep plugging away it's not impossible. CVs (resume) is generally the same but Australia likes a cover letter hitting the selection criteria giving examples using STAR (Situation,Task,Action & Result).

I am not a nurse but just managed to get a job offer with SA Health doing just that. They also offered a Skype interview which was a first for me. Had to jump through a few other hoops but all done from the UK.

Good luck and keep on trying as it is still possible to secure a job from the UK even though I realise it is much harder than it was.

Thank you! I've been writing my covering letter today (something you don't really do for nursing applications in the UK). The job spec Ive found on SA Health is really generic, so struggling to see what the selection criteria might be. But I shall keep plugging at it

For me I followed the essential minimum requirements under knowledge,skills and experience.If it is a job for SA Health I am guessing the setup is the same as I seen other jobs that were.Best if luck.

Yes, make sure you cover all the essential criteria and then sell yourself as you would in the additional information in an nhs jobs app. In my experience UK nurses are well regarded.

Nursing is a great profession to be in all over Australia, a lot of opportunity, work and ever-green!

Well all my applications so far haven't even been offered an interview. Just an outright no. Asked for feedback but nothing back. So don't know if it's my application, the fact I'm not yet in Australia or something else. Feeling a little disheartened as can't afford to live in Adelaide for too long without a job and arrive in 12 weeks time

Sorry to hear just keep plugging away sticking to their application format. Keep a look out for private hospital nurse jobs as well as SA Health. I think you may stand a better chance in Australia and I dont think they are big on feedback but that's no comfort to you at moment. I know what you mean you couldn't afford too long without job and it's difficult to even go without employment but people do. Persnally I probably couldn't manage for more than a month without a job.

Are you stating in your cover letter you are PR and when you coming to Australia? I would also state you are prepared to arrive early if offered job. The CV and cover letter is your only opportunity to tell them your personal curcumstances.

The way I would approach this is keep applying for everything even if you think it's not for you or suitable. If you get to Australia without a job start applying for all nurse jobs straight away. Even go through recruitment agencies if you have to. While you wait on those applications just apply for other jobs, care work shop work, bar work, anything etc just to tide you over until you get what you want. Personally that's what I would do.

@doubter Thank you so much for your comments and advice. Putting my PR and date of arrival on my covering letter sounds so obvious but it hadn't occurred to me until you mentioned it so it has now been added. Unfortunately I'm not able to arrive any earlier than my arrival date because of my notice period on my current job.

I shall continue plugging away at my applications and won't panic quite yet.

I don't suppose you would go to another state if there was an opportunity for the short term? 

I don't have that option as coming on a 190 visa.
