Secondary Schools

Hi there

I am looking for advice on the best secondary schools! I have been looking and really impressed with Brighton secondary school. However my husband will be working in Salisbury which will be proxy 40 mins commute! my daughter is very academic and will be entering in to year 9, I want to enrol her in to a school which will continue to progress her education. other than Brighton are their any other schools that could be recommended?

I also require advice on my son who will have just completed year11 and taken his GCSE's! it is recommended that students complete year 12. is this the best course of action for his future? or would going to 6th form college be ok?

I need to make the right choices for them.....

I can highly recommend Norwood Morialta high school, although that might also be a bit of a commute to Salisbury. When we were moving we considered Banksia Park high school. I can't recommend it as we didn't look in to it that closely but it did seem to get good results.

For your older son he will probably need to do years 11 and 12 here in order to get his SACE certificate. This is a bit like A levels. He could either go to the local school or try one of the specialist year 11 and 12 colleges that we have. There are no equivalents to GCSEs here.

why don't you check out the schools that are involved with the IGNITE program. There are three in Adelaide area. My daughter is on the program at Aberfoyle Park High school., but there are a couple of other schools in middle of Adelaide and also in the North. The program caters for children with high academic ability and allows you to .live outside catchment are for the school.

Would recommend you check out the system here with respect to your son. He really needs to complete year 12 and his GCSE will only give him as much as year 10 anyways so would need to complete year 11 and 12. They may give him credits for his GCSE's.

Henley High is a good school - it's the one our children would have gone to if we'd stayed in the city and it's a little closer to Salisbury than Brighton.

If you're not already here in Adelaide it can be tricky to pick somewhere to live which is a good base for work and schools so I suppose it would depend a lot on how comfortable your husband is with commuting (city commuting is slow - stop start at the traffic lights every few minutes) and what other things you're looking for in an area - beach/hills/children's other interests/your hobbies etc.
