beer, real beer

Recommended Posts

so : are you looking for bar or bottle-o prices?

The draught Spitfire i had in the city the other day was almost undrinkable and definitely unrecognisable. The same goes for the draught Speckled Hen, Marston's and Newcastle Brown I've tried over the years

If you want good beer over the counter you will have to pay for it. At the price you won't get better than the Wheatsheaf in George St Thebarton. -Not necessarily a very expensive session if you are prepared to alternate their better cask ozzie beers with the real stuff. (-Currently the Mountain Goat I.P.A. is stunning). Be nice to them and they will find you a real ale that hasn't been frozen to death in the fridge.

But if you want take- away bottled British Beers at very reasonable prices try the Cellarbrations store on Fullarton Rd;

thay have the full range of Spitfire, Bambadier, Youngs, Wychwood, Jennings, Badger, Bateman's etc etc. at 3 X 500ml bottles for $20 with super specials like Young & Wells @ 3 bottles for $15.

My recollection is that you can't do a lot better buying it in the UK

Why not "Be Australian Drink Australian" and try out the local stuff

You don't get much more Australian than Port Adelaide!!!

Lobethal Brewery - http://www.ahcb.com.au/ - , and the Steam Exchange at Goolwa - http://www.steamexchange.com.au/ - are another two good options, and of course, Coopers does do Brewery Tours - http://www.coopers.com.au/brewTours.php?pid=1

I was referring to the Newcastle Brown Ale, Speckled Hen, etc

I still can't understand why people crave English food/ drinks here when the choice is endless

Whilst this is true to a point, there are still some areas where there is no substitute, and sometimes it's nice for a nostaligic taste of the motherland. This applies as much to a bottle of "newc'y broon" as it does to birds custard and prawn cocktail skips.

I love this place, but a real UK beer is always a nice luxury every now and then.

try the port dock brewery in port adelaide too

Can highly recommend the Port Dock Brewery on a Sunday lunchtime for a few beers and a bite to eat.

The dolphin spotting cruises on the river are only $5 on a Sunday, and the early trip gets back in time for lunch...

If anyone is there this week, keep an eye out for us and come say hello! We'll be there from 12.30 ish! :)
