Hi guys, I have a birthday coming up soon and am trying to arrange a meal out but I don't get out much :goofy: so wondered if anyone could give me some suggestions. I live in Woodcroft so don't want to travel toooo far incase I have to get a cab back. There will be a group of us so not a tiny place. Don't mind what food apart from Thai.

Thanks in advance

Dont know if you are thinking of taking the kids with you Tracy, but we like the Strathmore in the city, right opposite the train station, you get a very hot slab of stone which you cook your own meat on, dont wear too much it gets hot!!! I think its called cafe 123 in the entertainment book. Pink pig in north adelaide is good too, but that would be a taxi form the train station.

Or montezumas if you like mexican, the one in Glenelg. But I have heard Candles in Old reynella on old main south road is very good, there is an entertainment voucher for that too.

Could be being stupid but what are the entertainment vouchers that people keep mentioning?

Its a book full of vouchers, they cost around $60 and you can get them from your school most likely they aye fundraisers, and worth having IF you remember to use them:jiggy:

Hello Tracey,

Happy Birthday and have a great night out when the big day arrives. We had a meal at the Strathmore - very informal and the steak was great. However, last night we went to 'North' at the casino and the meal I had was the best ever. I had oysters (my first time!), bread and dips, Angus fillet steak and Strawberry Bombe Alaska and every single mouthful was perfect - very highly recommended and handy for the train too.

Say hello to Pete and the family from us.

A bunch of us were in the casino last night as well.

We were not eating "posh" though - $5 fish & chips up in the cheap cafe:biglaugh:

Hi Tyke,

What a shame we missed you! Did you enjoy the fish and chips? 'North' is a stylish restaurant and I have to say that it was fairly expensive at over 300 dollars for 5 people, only 3 had a pudding and we shared 2 bottles of wine but it WAS fab. I would like to have met you Tyke - one day eh? :)

We all thought the fish and chips were great value and tasted OK - a few others such as roast of the day.

We do it for fun- makes up for the money we lose on the tables!!!

North sounds very nice:)

I'll let you know next time we have a casino night:)

We were at 'North' too last night, Fantastic food, I had duck and my partner had Lamb rack. with the strawberry bombe alaska to finish, the meal was perfect, as was the service. it was expensive at $120 for 2 people but for a treat its definately worth it.

We Had an hour in the casino before going to the festival centre. very close to the train station, and they have valet parking if you want to drive.

Well, well .. so there was a few of us PomsinAdelaidians at the casino last night! It's a shame we don't know the faces to the names as we could have said hello! Where were you sitting? We were right next to the desk at the front by the window nearest the exit. Glad you enjoyed the food, it really was superb wasn't it? Can't wait to go back for a romantic twosome next time. Cheers.:)

We were sat next to one of the tills by the window opposite the kitchen, half way between the bar and the desk. we were there between 5 and 6pm. yes the food was fantastic, and we will highly recommend the restaurant again.

Thankyou everyone for your suggestions, most of them are too far for that particular night but will certainly remember them for the future, The Barn in Maclaren sounds lovely but a bit pricey for a few of us, may go there when I have a bit more cash. Think I am gonna book the CHina Cafe (or cafe china, not sure which way round it is) in Woodcroft for now.
