Hi, we arrive in adelaide in october 2011 and had our visa granted in july 2011, we are staying with friends in beaumont, until we find an area in adelaide that we like, we are thinking of henley or glenelg as we want to be close to the sea, and we would like good schools for the children, who are 12 and 8, we havent looked at schools yet and would like any advise anyone has on schools in the area... also it would be nice if anyone is moving to adelaide with kids the same age and would like to get together.

our son regan is 12 and is into bmxing and would like to know if there is any good skate parks about, we found a few when we were there, our daughter is renele and is 8 and just likes general girly stuff, brownies etc.

looking forward to arriving to the sun after such a horrid summer here!! cant wait....

We are also hoping to move to Glenelg\Brighton area in October. Havent booked flights yet because we are coming over on a temp business visa with husbands employers - hoping to apply for permanent after a year or so, if everything goes well. Our daughter Charlotte is 10, 11 next month, and our son Joel is only 2. Have you made any decisions about schools yet ? - i have been researching for a while but think i will wait until we come over before contacting any. It would be nice to keep track of whats going on with your relocation with a view of meeting up when we get to Adelaide, you never know, the children may end up at school together.

Hope to hear from you soon

Teresa

Hi teresa, thanks for replying, we havent made any decisions on schools yet, we are going to wait until we get there and look at lots around the areas we like, as we have to find somewhere to rent first but dont want to keep moving the kids about as we have done that alot here!! We are staying in beaumont with friends when we first arrive which is a very good area, but we want to be near the beach and sea!! We just love glenelg, henley, brighton etc so will look there first.

It would be fantastic to keep in touch and meet up with you when you arrive in adelaide, you never know maybe we will get the same flights!!

Ill let you know when we book our flights. My husband is a carpenter and we are property developers but we dont know if we will do that in adelaide or not!! Take care marc and rachel x ps where are you staying when you first arrive? Where are you in the uk? We are in cambridgshire!! Good luck

Hi, we are flying out a few weeks after you, on the 7th November and a little further south to start with in Port Noarlunga. We have 2 boys Tom is 12 and Dan 10 and they are both BMX fanatics!! Tom has been researching on the net and apparently the BMX track at Flagstaff looks awesome so we have to get a rental there!!! Our friends are also flying out the same day and they have 2 daughters aged 12 and 9 so perhaps we should all meet up sometime when we get there, sounds like the kids would get on really well, Stef

hi stef, that would be fantastic to all meet up,... i bet the kids would get on really well!!, my son used to do bmx racing but he now prefers to just hang around the skate park!! we also must make sure we are near a good skatepark when we find somewhere, so maybe it will be flagstaff hill!!, we went out to adelaide in march last year and like the new developments, but also like the to be near the sea... we want good schools, we just hope we can get it all if poss!!

where are you living at the moment? we are in cambridgeshire, its a shame we have to send the kids back to school in september as we were hoping to go by then but they will have to go back for a month or so as we are importing two cars and it is taking ages to sort out!!!

Have you found a rental yet in port noarlunga? maybe the boys can facebook each other and chat before we meet?? Rachel and Marc x

Hi Rachel, we are not as sensible as you as we have never been to Oz at all, just jumping in with both feet but what an adventure!!! We are living in Shropshire just on the Welsh borders. We sold our house end of July and are in a rented house until 31st October which is when the shippers come! We can't wait now getting sooo excited!! We have booked a furnished rental in Port Noarlunga until the 10th January which should give the container long enough to get there, and then we will have to see where Steve get's a job ( hopefully around the Lonsdale area so that we can live South of the city ). We have set a circle from just below Glenelg across to Aberfoyle Park ( looks like a very good school ) and as far south as Seaford as our preferred area to live, like you I want to be close to the beach if possible and find a great school for the kids, not asking too much is it?!?! I am not planning on finding a job until February as I want to get the kids settled before I do, but when I do I imagine it will be CBD. If you want to pm me with Regan's facebook name I will get Tom to send a friend request, it will be from Tom Jones ( don't think he will ever live down the irony of that one, but we find it amusing!! ). Hopefully speak to you soon, it will be lovely to start getting to know a few people via PIA before we get there, Stef :jiggy:

hi there, we arrived 17th august and are in port noarlunga and lving it so far, we have researched schoos both primary and high school as my son is also 12 and theres lots to think about over here regarding school, we viewed seaford 6-12 high which seemed ok pretty much the norm but they are trying to get their status changed to only accept children beginning year 8 rather than year 6 as they feel too young my son would start there as the 7-8 year class if we choose there, however we have a place booked on the principals tour here for cardijin college which is a catholic private school that has quite a good reputation here and alot of people we have spoke to have known of children that have gone there , but there is a waiting list there other than that you have christies beach high which i have not looked into as i have heard alot of negative things however i did hear the other day that their reputation is on the rise as they have done some good things recently and apparently dont deserve the reputation they have now its a stigma that has comes frm years ago apparently. you have wirreanda high school which is a sports specialist school thats a bit further away from here and would require bus to am yet to view this one but personally think its a bit far away. so good luck and have a ssafe journey, any other advice just ask know what its like (Headache) lol

Hi Brighton High school is a great high school and Brighton also has a primary school, Glenelg is a great place to go for a night out but very expensive to live and will double your rental and to buy in Glenelg would cost you an arm and a leg.

Look down in Brighton North, hove or warradale still close to the beach still a little expensive but means you would qualify for entry to brighton high which is classed as the best non private high school in sa....or you could move to hallett cove like the rest of the Poms hahaha hope it goes well have a great flight

if your boy wants to get back into bmx racing, he will be spoilt for choice of tracks, there are 5 good race tracks in the metro area, and if you live at Flagstaff, you will be 10/15 mins drive from 2 of them. Where is the bmx track in Flagstaff? trying to think , but really can't picture it. Regarding skate parks, there are a good number around, off the top of my head, near to Flagstaff Hill there are - blackwood, manning road (aberfoyle park), Brighton Road, West Beach and a smaller one at Hallet Cove. Dirt jumps are everywhere.

to JDHogg77 Re Wirreanda, I don't think that school has a fab rep either, however, I know someone who has a child there and has no complaints, but I also know a teacher there who would not send her son there. As you say, you need to look round them all.

Hi Marc and Rachel

Dont know why but i wasnt notified of your reply. Sorry, have just seen this post. We are currently living in Eastbourne. Move out of our house on 30th September into a caravan (on a nice site) for 3 weeks. Hope to fly out on or around oct 20th, but im not sure whether we will be able to get flights or not. I think we will be staying in Brighton, Glenelg or Henley Beach- not quite sure yet. I have been looking at Brighton primary school and Paringa park. Im not too sure about Glenelg. OH came over about a month ago and said that there is a lot to do there, but also made it sound a bit touristy. Although i like the idea of being close to everything im not sure that i want to be smack bang in the middle of it all. Will you be flying from Heathrow ?. Was looking at the Qantas flights because i kind of like the idea of going on the A380, supposed to be quiter and all.

take care

Thanks so much for all that info! TBH as we don't land until 9th November I don't think I am going to stress about getting them into a school straight away, will take time to see where Steve can get a job ( he is a heavy diesel mechanic ) and then we will know where we will get a long term rental and then look more at the schools, so any more info you get would be great!! I really hope he can get a job South of the city so that we can stay in the Port Noarlunga area as it looks perfect! Stef

Hi Wyles family

We have our perm visa and hope to arrive end Nov/Dec. We have been over many times as my sister and family live in North Brighton and my niece and nephew both go to Brighton High school. Before they bought their house my sister researched all schools in the area Brighton High school was her favourite. They specialise in sport and music.

We will be looking to live in Glenelg, Somerton Park, North Brighton etc area as well to ensure that we are in the catchment area for Brighton High school. My son is 11 and loves skateboarding, there are loads of skate parks for BMX, scooters etc. and my daughter is 8 and loves brownies also. In fact friends of ours who live in Marino but met up with us while they were touring Scotland, their daughter is a brownie leader so we have got that sorted for Abbie when we arrive lol. Good primary schools, Paringa Park and Glenelg, know kids that go to both and love them.

We dont have any flights booked yet as selling the house and my husbands business at the moment but still got our fingers crossed to be out for Christmas dinner on the beach!!!!!!

Good luck and you never know may meet you out there one day.
