Hi bit of a strange one!!

Hi

Names James me and my other half have been here in Australia coming two years now

I'm 32 and Rachael 28

Last year I was lucky enough to have my dreams come true and was granted a 457.

This however ment that we would have to move from Melbourne ( yeah sorry don't hold that against me ) to

Adelaide Mt barker to be precise

Now here's the strange part my other half is struggling to settle. She has a strong family tie in the UK that she struggled to leave behind, and has been made harder with the birth of second niece.

My sister helped a huge amount the first year as she herself had been through the same thing ten years before so introduced Rachael to her network of friends.

Here it's a little different and I don't want to see her upset. I thought a year into it we would have a better social life but most weekends we are sitting watching tv thinking I want to go out.

Also it's that time of year and I hope it's not going to be to lonely.

Anyway that us. Hopeful not to sad and desperate lol and I'll get to no a few if you a bit better sooner or later

Any questions just ask

Ps I'm a petrol head currently restoring a Datsun 260z and abit addicted to mw3 and battlefield3 on the PS3 ATM. Need help restoring the car actually. There be beer supplied lol

Rachael Loves horses and shopping........... on my card who wouldn't lol. She loves crime books and things like CSI and Criminal minds.

James n Rachael

Hello and welcome :) People on here are pretty friendly and there are regular meet ups for members and all are welcome. They are posted about on the forum so keep your eyes open.

Also when there are events often people get together it seems. And also many ladies are happy to meet up for coffee and so on with others. And this can often lead to more lasting friendships. I know if we were over already I'd be more than happy to say I'd meet up with your good lady for a coffee and a bit of a chat and so on. But we won't be there for a while yet. I know there are some people living out your way and one or two others planning to be out there soonish. So keep your eyes peeled.

Have you just tried heading in to Glenelg and Jetty road one weekend evening when the weather is nice. There is a place does amazing hot dogs and a great gelato place up the road and you can spend an hour or two wandering the beach, people watching, have a beer or a bite to eat. Its not the be all and end all of course, but I've always enjoyed a night like that with my hubby. Also there is a great little Thai place there where we've had a few nice meals. Its a bit touristy but its sometimes good to just get out and do that and it always feels a bit more lively if its a touristy place and you perhaps don't feel so conspicuous.

Try to break the cycle and make the extra effort to head out, even if its just the two of you. I don't know what there is doing round where you live but I do know a couple of people live out that way and while its quieter living they seem to be happy.

Hopefully some others will be along and you can arrange to actually meet up with them :)

Good luck :)

I think I recognise the view in the last pic.

And I do love the SH sky at night. It gives me hours of endless enjoyment spotting the different constellations that side.

Sounds like you are getting out and about. More just a case of meeting a few people. I am sure there will be more replies and from people actually already in the area. Perhaps encourage Rachael to post here as it may help her feel less isolated? People are posting about stuff for Christmas, a few others are feeling like you and hoping its not going to be a bit lonely.

There is also the monthly Sunday meet up, here is the link to the most recent page so you can see where and when for the next one or post and ask about it

While the Sunday has gone this month, I am hopeful you could find some like minded people posting there who might meet up sooner.

Cool thank you. The last photo is taken from mt lofty house.

I recently bought a half decent telescope to view the stars on clear nights. You get a fantasic view of Jupiter its red spot and four of it's moons directly above our house ATM.

Hi,

You didn't say if your OH is working. If not, and she loves horses, Mt Barker is a perfect base to get work in some of the thoroughbred studs, especially this time of year while getting ready for the big annual thoroughbred sales in early March. Even if the work is not all that well paid she will meet some very interesting people - might help to get her started around some people she has a common interest with, and she might find that many have done stints in the UK etc. Just a thought, anyway.....

I moved over from NW England in September to be with my boyfriend (got sick of the long distance thing), who is also a huge petrol head! I also love horse riding and am looking for 1. Somewhere decent to start trecking/lessons 2.(a bonus) someone to go with...much more fun!!??

To Lizzie I might be able to help you out abit there I have a friend at work that has a number of horses that I ride occasionally. Didn't cost anything and the last time they had a massive bonfire.

They have 100 acres in the middle of no where!!

Chris and Deb

For Chris mainly I'll lay the beers on if you ever won't to lend a hand restoring this I want to do as much as I can on my own TBH but I'm limited as to what I can do so will be doing it through beer bribes mostly I think.

Hi you guys...

Any possibility that your rental is still available? If so, we would definitely be interested!

Hi James & rachel, We are not in Oz yet but will hopefully make it there by July 2012 so can't really help with the meeting up thing but one thing I was wondering was what is Mount Barker like. I was looking at some developments there the other day and it seemed ok. it's not to say we would move there but it is another option if we can't find/afford soemthing nearer the sea as one of the kids would really like to get into surfing. I'm not that much into cars but I love astronomy and would love to get a decent telescope - maybe the OH will buy me one as a leaving present from the UK!! Anyway, hope you get some friends there soon and keep on smiling as it's rubbish over here at the mo. Merry Xmas, Mis
