ADELAIDE has recorded its hottest New Year's Day in 112 years with the mercury hitting 41C. The temperature is 13C above the average for January and the city's hottest New Year's Day since 1900, when the temperature reached 43.1C.
Ceduna has recorded the hottest temperature - 44.7C - while many towns have gone past 40C including Roseworthy reaching 42C and Pallamana, near Murray Bridge, 41C.
Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke said Adelaide residents could expect another warm night, which is likely to stay above 30C past midnight.
"Tomorrow will heat up quite rapidly, reaching 35C by about 9am and the high 30s by lunchtime,'' he said.
"A cooler change is not due to arrive until the middle of Tuesday.''
