Wife worried about not meeting other mothers

Are there many opportunities in Adelaide for things like play centres for infants where mothers can socialise? Do any people on here meet up regularly for anything like this? We are still in Cardiff, but looking to come out before the end of the year and she wants to know about this sort of thing.

Any help appreciated!

Hi Gus,

There is a list of scheduled 2012 meet ups in a thread posted under the socialising category. From what I've seen here many of the expat mums with similar interests or children of the same age group do meet for coffee or a playground while their children get together.

No worries mate:)

Hey Gus!

Tell your wife to not worry!

Having children is the perfect way to make new friends!

Tad and I have noticed that the Australians are all about family and kids!

There are parks everywhere teeming with kids and parents!

There are also recreation centres, classes, and pools, and sports!

The beaches are extraordinary!

The great things about Australians is that you can easily walk up and start talking to them and they are a wealth of information, funny and polite!

You will all have a great time on your adventure!

Yep no need to worry on that score. Always meet ups going on. There is a regular one every first Sunday of the month in Port Noarlunga. Also there are Facebook pages set up by members on here to help intergrate. We meet new arrivals all the time and help out whenever we can. People here remember what it is like when they first arrived. Luckily there was a great support network when we arrived and now its even bigger. Just shout if you need anything and someone will come up trumps. Don't worry about a thing just let people know once you get here and you'll soon be invited to all sorts of things.

Hi Gus,

It can be difficult to meet people. There are a few play groups around. The Salvation Army on Byron St, off Jetty Rd has a play group on Thursdays at 10am. It's a gold coin donation and a piece of fruit to share. I know a few women who have a week full of play group meetings. Will ask around and get some details.

Good luck to your wife!

We probably won't make it out until nearer the end of the year, but I'm sure Kate (my wife) would love to meet up and find another full time mum to hang out with! Where are you hoping to stay?

Hi There Gus,

Do you know which area you are going to move to? we stay in Salisbury north and we arrived on the 5th of april and can understand how she may be feeling, but since we got here we have meet some nice people and there is always plenty to do and mums with kids looking for escape. Lots of soft play centres, plenty of play groups , and there is mainly music groups aged birth to 5.

You can give us a shout when you arrive and we can easily meet up for a coffee and a barbie.

Safe trip and look forward to your new adventure in life
