A little bit of research

Having read a number of threads on the socialising pages I could not help but notice that countless people put various invites up for get togethers etc, but many get little reply despite a huge number of views. Is it worth carrying out a bit of a poll just to find out exactly what people are looking for from the socialising pages.

It seems to me that many people want to get together, make friends, have a good time but are actually a little too reluctant to follow through with anything. So what do we want

Mother's coffee mornings

Pub get togethers

General meet ups

Organised events like parties etc

I just can't help feeling that we POMs are a little too reserved for our own good sometimes

Hi there

I've organised a few girls' get togethers up this way, and generally find that even if you don't get many public replies on the site, quite a few people either just turn up, and maybe bring a few friends along, or organise it through Private Message. What I'm trying to say is, just coz there aren't many posts on a thread, don't think the get together isn't going ahead!

Also, several years ago we met one of our best friends here in Adelaide after he put up a post inviting anyone over to his to watch the Adelaide Classic Rally which was going past his door. We were one of only a few that turned up, but still stay in touch, so it doesn't have to be a huge gathering to be a successful one!

I've organised loads of meet ups. Its always been the same. You tend to get around 5 or 6 people saying they will turn up and of those only 4 actually do, but an extra 10- 14 others that didn't reply to the thread. :o)

I too have organised meets.....though mainly in pub and many are couples without children. Have had around 50-60 at one to around 12 at small ones.

AS said a lot turn up that do not reply to the thread....sometimes this can be misleading to think that no one will turn up....after all if they have viewed it, it take no long then 20secs to say yes or no!!

It sounds like a good idea Pete but as others have said just because people dont reply on the thread does not mean they are not going to turn up.

The first Sunday of the month meet up...http://www.pomsinadelaide.com/forum/socialising/30063-meet-ups-2012-a.html.....that gets arranged sometimes has over 20 families turn up.

Quite a few have never posted on here but have just read the post and turned up.

Just our thoughts.
