Hi All,

Been in Oz for 7 weeks now living in North Adelaide which is really nice but so far struggling at weekends to find somewhere to socialise and meet for a chat andfew beers. I am currently on my own as the rest of my family don't move over until the end of November so any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Cheers,

Hello and welcome. North Adelaide is a lovely area to start off in. I work there but live in the hills.

If you are into playing cricket or soccer then to perhaps look up clubs local to you and see about joining? The social aspect of sports clubs here is big (AFL footy in the winter is a huge part of our social life, more hubby and son than me but I get involved as loads of other mums do too). The cricket season is starting soon and our local club is always welcoming of new members, adults and kids. We are too far away for our club to be useful to you but I am sure there will be something in or around North Adelaide or the parklands. If you are moving soon then look around the local clubs of the area you are moving to rather than North Adelaide.

We also have some soccer and sports clubs listed on the forum that may be of interest. http://www.pomsinadelaide.com/forum/sports-recreation/

If you are into road cycling I can give you pointers where to look for clubs and races over the coming months.

Also I seem to recall a site called meetup.com.au or something, where social groups list themselves and welcome new people to join them. You put in the city you are in and go from there I think is all. Perhaps you might find a group there that appeals?

My husband does most of his socialising via our local footy/cricket club where he plays footy (AFL) and coaches junior cricket in summer. We've met lots of families this way and he's also met lots of other guys via the footy side of things playing in the local league and stuff. He has friends outside of this too but we tend not to see as much of them as they are dotted round Adelaide and not too many close by. So its pre planned get togethers with them.
