Hi, we are travelling to Adelaide (staying in Glenelg) next month, arrive Sat 14th Feb for 2 weeks on a holiday/reccie of the area.

We were wondering if there are any meetings/social get togethers for family's planned during our stay. We are really keen to talk to people regarding their emigration experience and would love the chance to meet and have a chat.

Thanks ever so much...........

Nick (34), Alison (35), our children Finlay (8) and Sian (2)

In the hills in an area called Eden Hills near Blackwood. Only 20/25 mins to CBD and beach though so not too far and we could come and collect you if necessary.

Definately watch the boards and I will pm you once we actually arrive!!

Look forward to it

that sounds great, whats the prices on the properties at minute over there, watching all the progs on TV you cant really get a feel for an average price. Some that we have seen researching on net have been really reasonable, again you just dont know I guess until you see it in flesh. How long did it take you to sell your house in UK? We dont really know when to put ours up for sale, we are thinking of maybe March this year as they have been taking from 12 - 18 mths to sell in and around the area.

Cant wait for next month though, it has been a long time coming this reccie, just hope it lives up to our expectations! I am sure it will....

Speak soon

Hi The McDermotts

The best place to check house prices is http://www.realestate.com.au/

although this will often only show guide prices but is still better than the UK tv programmes. The website is great for checking house prices in specific suburbs...and comparing them plus you can look at the map and get a real feel for a house's proximity to Adelaide, the beach etc.

As far as a meet up goes...you could arrange one yourselves...there are loads of nice places to meet here. If you're going to rent a car then the rental company are likely to provide you with a comprehensive UBD road map...

Some suggestions:

Wittunga Botanical Garden, Blackwood - free, with nice picnic areas, meet just near the carpark

Adelaide Botanic garden - free, again great for a picnic, meet near the restaurant

Glenelg beach near the jetty...good fish and chips on Jetty Road

Glenelg Wigley reserve/play area near the Buffalo ship...under cover picnic and bbq areas

Brighton beach reserve, on the corner of the Esplanade and Bindarra road, good for picnic or a bbq

Hope this helps...

BTW there is a good web cafe in Glenelg, in the row of shops (pedestrianised alley type thing!) between Nandos chicken and The Bay Discovery centre, sorry can't remember the name of the street.

Bye for now and good luck with your reccie
