Out on the boat the other day I had a visitor.

A nice Hammerhead Shark a few metres long just cruising around, underneath the boat was a huge ball of bait fish so I know what he was thinking.

Did you get any better video? I can't work out if that's cool or scary lol.

I'll have a look at the other ones, I have quite a few. He did keep his distance.

My keen eyed fishing buddy assures me this is a Hammerhead.

Nope, nothing better or clearer. He did keep his distance.

Next time I'll sling a line out........... Shark (Flake) is lovely to each, Caught a few 7 Gill and Gummy Sharks.

Bit of a two man job as one has to hold and the other dispatch swiftly. A friend has a lovely scar on his calf where he tried to bring one in solo.

You're going to need a bigger boat.....

This one was a baby!!

We had an easily 4.5 meter Great White wandering around the boat for 10 minutes last year.

Very close to the boat.

Rubbish pics as I was shaking - because I found the moment so awesome.

We had another visiting shark nick what would have been my record Snapper.

When hooked the fish came towards me which is weird.

Then at the top of the water we had a shark thrashing on my prize catch, leaving just the head (got loads of risqué comments in the fishing forum LOL)

This would have been a 14 to 15 KG fish...............

Aren't sharks a protected species??

Certain species are certainly protected. Great Whites amongst them.

There are also limits on amounts and size to adhere to.

I have the Fisheries book onboard and measuring stations onboard.

As Wendy says i am a stickler for the rules, often throwing back fish that are just on the catch size.

The other day I threw back quite a few as I just did not need them.

  • 4 weeks later...

I was out on my mate's boat about a month ago and after paying 30m of line out on my shark rod saw a dorsal fin come up 5m off the boat and it was a 5ft hammerhead! Reeled my bait in to try and tempt it but it swam off the other way!! Amazing as we were only 100m off the coast of Semaphore! We did bag up on KG Whiting and blue swimmer crab that day though so can't complain!
