  1. Hello. We are shipping some furniture from Singapore to Adelaide at the end of April. We have a solid pine wood wax polished table, display cabinet and 2 bed side drawers made in the UK @15 years ago, as well as wooden painted & laquered furniture from China recently bought - newly made. We don't have any fumigation certificates or receipts for any of them. None are raw wood; they're either varnished, laquered or wax polished finished. Is there likely to be any problems when they get to Australia? will they be allowed through inspection at quarantine (AQIS) or will we be expected to pay for them to be fumigated or chose to destroy? Our shippers don't think there'll be a problem, but others have warned us to double check. Any advice gratefully received. many thanks Samantha
  2. Hello all, we'll need to furnish our long term rental within a couple of weeks, any suggestions as to where's good to shop for furniture, preferably in the southern areas? We are Looking at ikea, but would you have any other suggestions? thanks
  3. Hi Everyone We are moving into our first Australian mortgage house this weekend (Friday 24th / Saturday 25th July) and we are giving away a free Queen Size Mattress and Bed Frame if anyone is interested, if you live from Fulham Gardens going South via Tapleys Hill Road, Brighton Road, Lonsdale Road then I should be able to drop it off whilst we are moving to Sheidow Park this weekend, we also have a small coffee table and two glass bedside cabinets and possibly one or two nice black trendy book/ornaments/pictures tall stands. Nothing amazing looking but may help some family who have just moved over and do not have some stuff they require. Inbox me and I will reply to you, if able to deliver it will be sometime late Saturday or Sunday morning, if no response I will drop them off at the rubbish dump this Sunday. We are downsizing that's all. I look forward to anyone's response, sorry for those who live up North East, its a pain in the ar....se moving as probably aware and travelling out of my way just adds to the stress, but then again I would be going to the dump in Wingfield if no one wants the stuff - so if that's on the way from Fulham Gardens then I could drop it off. Tony

  9. We are leaving Adelaide and going back home in first week of July (no specific dates yet). When we came here 1.5 years ago, we bought all new furniture, a fridge and a washing machine. Now it looks that selling it second-hand will be a lot of a hassle and only 30%-40% of the original price. Sending it back home is even less cost-effective. I would like to find someone who would be interested in taking this rental house from us (I would arrange a lease take over with the landlord) and buying the furniture and white goods for one lump sum (about $3500 - $4000 to be negotiated) Details: a. 3 bedroom house with a garden in Mile End - 10 mins from CBD, $380 rent per week b. 2 bedrooms with furniture for children - single bed, mattress, cupboard, desk etc. c. 1 bedroom with queen bed, two cupboards, bedsides, lamps etc d. 1 living room with two seaters, coffe table, desk, bookcase, lamp etc All furniture was bought brand new from Fantastic Furniture. e. 1 fridge and 1 washing machine (front loader) by Samsung bought from Harvey Norman. I think it might be a good offer for those wanting to start off in Adelaide in a fully furnished rental property. 10. When we arrived from the UK we had a rental with no furniture. We had to wait for our container to arrive so we bought two cheap settees. They are both matching in a dark/navy blue. One is a two seater and the other is a double fold out sofa bed. As we have bought a new settee which arrives on Saturday 14th August 2010, So if anyone out there is in need of some seating please contact us. These are free so all it will cost you is the transport costs. We are in Aberfoyle Park which is south of the city. Please call me on 0451503959
  11. We have found that the cost of living is an important factor to take into account and before we came to Adelaide I always looked for those posts mentioning about people's cost of living here in Adelaide. First impressions I would say Adelaide is only slightly more expensive than where we living in Newcastle upon Tyne and of course some things are slightly cheaper. Right just read this next bit of this message! We have only shipped Washing Machine, Dryer, Golf Clubs and 2 TV's the rest is Clothes, Pictures, Photos, Culterly, Pots & Pans. Thats all. So of course we need to purchase some essential furniture, for instance Beds, Dining Room Table and Lounge Suit. We had decided on three cheapest places. 1. AMart 2. Fantastic Furntire and, 3. IKEA. After visiting all three we decided to go with AMart at Gepps Cross not the Anzac Highway one. AMart sold furniture packages. So we purchased the following: 3 Queen Size Beds 3 Queen Size Mattresses 6 Bedside Cabinets 7 Piece Dining Room Set (6 chairs & 1 table) 2 3-Seater Bed Settee's 2 ETU's (TV Unit) 2 Coffee Tables 2 Lamp Tables For the price of $1,664.00 = £963.00 approximately. The only problem is that we move into our new rental on the 10th March and this lot of furniture is not going to be delivered until the end of March. So if anyone is going to purchase furniture on arrival do it quickly on arrival as it takes ages for it to be delivered (Delivery cost us $55). For all readers who are currently residing in Adelaide, please can anyone help us out with the following. We need 5 blow-up beds only 4 if one is a double from the 10th March till the end of March till our beds turn up. Can anyone help us out with this problem. I absolutely love this place and only yesterday I mentioned I am going home now, meaning my home here in Adelaide.
  12. Hi everyone we have just been accepted on a massive four bedroom house. So we are looking for cheap furniture deals, like 3 piece suits, dining room table with chairs, tv stand, Double Beds & Bunk Beds, etc. Where do we start looking????? Is there any websites we can look at regarding furniture. Tony
