Where can we buy car seats?

      Hi all,

We are hoping to be out in Oz by the beginning of May. We have an eighteen month toddler and a three month baby and will need to get car seats for them pretty much as soon as we arrive (found out we can't use our UK car seats over there). Were wondering if anyone could tell us where we could buy them (names of shops/ department stores that sell them would be much appreciated). Also, what are the prices like? Are they comparable to the prices of car seats in the UK?

You can buy car seats in a number of places - including Toys R us and K Mart (I think). We bought ours from the RAA who will fit them for you as well. I think we probably paid a bit more but it was worth it to us as we needed them straight away and was getting paranoid about the kids safety.
The big difference is that all cars are fitted with an extra hook device thing behind the rear seats to which you attache the car seat ensuring they are fastened at the back as well as underneath.
We had bought an older wagon type car and it didn't have the rear hook so we had to have it fitted for about $60. The care seats themselves were a similar price to the uK from what I remember,

      Type of car

      Thanks donna

The type of wagon we are looking to buy is either a Ford Falcon or Holden Commodor exec no older than 1991. Would these cars have 'the extra hook' you talk about? - if not is it easy to have the hook attached? who would attach a hook for about $60 ie garage, shop you buy the seat from etc?

      Cheers

Big W and Target both have big ranges of baby equipment. If you want fancier or a wider range then YCN (Your child's nursery ) in Grote st in the city has a big range. If you are out by Tea Tree Plaza Target has a Target Baby store.

We bought one car seat from Target and one from Big W (or was it K Mart? Can't remember, was very jet lagged but both sell them...) Prices are comparable to the UK and yes, we have a Commodore that has the required fitting.
