Free Public Transport for Liverpool V Adelaide Game

Tens of thousands of football fans will be able to make the most of free public transport for the huge clash between Liverpool and Adelaide United at the Adelaide Oval.

The State Government has been negotiating with the organisers on public transport arrangements for the July 20 match.

The Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said planning was well underway to ensure public transport needs were met for what is expected to be a capacity crowd.

“Adelaide Oval Express services are a very popular way of getting to games at the oval, with more than one million trips on buses, trains and trams during last year’s AFL season,” Mr Mullighan said.

“The redeveloped Adelaide Oval has already hosted a hugely successful inaugural season of AFL football, a Rolling Stones concert and yesterday’s World Cup match between India and Pakistan which attracted fans from throughout the world.

“Now the Oval will host the Reds versus the Reds, again thrusting our city and its premier sporting venue into the world sporting limelight.

“Such world-class events are huge drawcards and, as with the World Cup Cricket, we anticipate a global TV audience for the game, creating the perfect platform to showcase Adelaide to the rest of the world.”

Mr Mullighan said the government was committed to continually improving the public transport network, bringing hundreds of thousands more commuters to games at Adelaide Oval.

“This deal will result in a cheaper day-out for families, rather than driving and paying car parking costs, or paying for a single Adelaide Metro ticket each way, which would cost up to $10.20 for a full-fare return ticket,” Mr Mullighan said.

“Under these new arrangements the event organisers pick up the cost which amounts to about $3 per ticket.

“This is a great outcome for fans and will provide a hassle-free way to get to and from the oval.”

I love the new oval and have been a number of times but have not used the free buses once yet. We used the free buses when the AFL was down at West Lakes and it was a great system but you have to go to one of the designated stops to catch the bus. With the new oval being in pretty much in the city it's just as easy for us to drive to the city and walk to the oval.

yep, I'm pretty worried how rarely anyone mentions Public transport in this thread.

If you live near the OBahn intersections, or the Tramway, or any of the train stations, there's a lot to be said in giving PT a go:

- multi transfer tickets for two hour periods

- big discounts when you buy Multi Trip tickets

- Guaranteed max waiting times in Go Zones

- free off peak transport and all weekend for concession card holders

- Park and Ride, for your car or your bike

- Free trams from The Entertainment Centre all the way to South Terrace, and in Brighton

- Free connector buses around the City

- Free to major sporting events at The New Adelaide Oval

- Express services from places like Tea Tree Gully (12 minutes to the City)

Having gone to a screening of One Night in Istanbul the other night and been ultra impressed by the singing abilities of some of the Liverpool fans here in Adelaide, I reckon public transport is definitely the way to go just to soak up a bit of extra atmosphere on the way there. The walk across the bridge to the Oval will be awesome too.

Incidentally Eugene Galekovic (sp?) was at the screening too - OH and I were joking he probably couldn't understand a word of it - took me a while to tune in my ear to the strong scouse accents!

Nice! How do we get the tickets for the game? It will be an interesting game, I believe

There has been an extra release of tickets if anyone is still interested;

Also, try the 'LFC Adelaide Official Liverpool Supporters Club' on Facebook. There is a thread on there where people are selling tickets off where they cannot go / bought extras etc. All for face value or less in some instances.
