I know that alot of you have been down to Victor Harbor to see the whales , but at Bashams Beach for the past two weeks or so there are heaps of them and very close in. We went to Bashams Beach today which (for the ones who dont know )about 7k south of Victor Harbor. There were 14 in total and at one point there was 3mums and there new born calfs all within 50m of the beach and all messing around with each other.

They will soon be gone so anyone yet to get down there............its a must there are not many places in the world that you can get this close to whales from the shore.

Highly recommended...........:jiggy:

I agree!! We went a couple of weeks ago and saw some awesome tail slapping. The 'boom' it made was amazing!

Take your packed lunch, a flask of coffee and a camera and settle in for an hour or so to watch... Bashams Beach is the place to be!

Any idea what is the best time as went after school one day but they were quite a way out so could only see splashing. Is there a best time of day to see them?

We saw them wooohoooo! The last time we visited every whale spotting hotspot down that way and saw nada but today was fab! Basham beach was packed with folks and there were tons of whales - I couldnt believe how close to shore they were - the kids thought it was 'awesome'! I hope they are still there in a couple of weeks when we have visitors over - I would love to show them that.

Hi! Spotted your post on here this morning, so we zipped off down there today, and what a fantastic sight!! We still can't quite believe what we saw - two mothers and calves just 30 metres or so from the beach. Just wanted to say thanks for the tip! We had an amazing day out.

Sharon.

Go to Victor Harbor, turn left at the first round about,go through Port Elliot after about 4 km, then road heads in land a little, then take a right ,sign posted Bashams Beach.........you can see the whales from the beach or just to the left up onto of a small cliff...........good luck
