We've just spent the weekend camping in Barmera. On Sunday am we were in town looking at the street market when the kids said that some one had a rabbit with 'really big' ears in their car. We had a look and couldn't believe our eyes. It was a little kangaroo! Next thing it's carer appeared. He was a park ranger and he had raised it after it was orphaned. It wanted to be held just like a baby and our two kids had a nurse. Can't describe how chuffed we all were.

My children saw their first kangaroos in the wild (not in a zoo or wildlife park) on Sunday. We were at a family BBQ in the countryside outside Hahndorf and late in the afternoon 2 very large kangaroos appeared in the trees at the back of the property, then bounced off. Then driving into Hahndorf a little later we saw another 3 in a paddock. Needless to say the children were quite excited!

Take them to this place: Emu Holiday Park - Vicki, who runs the place, is also the local animal rescue person, and is usually hand-rearing a couple of 'roos - if you're very lucky she'll let you help with the bottle feeding! Fantastic, and she has some amazing stories to tell. For instance, when a female that she's raised and released is carrying its first Joey, it comes back to her and opens its pouch to show her the baby! How cute is that!!

We went to the Easter Fair at Meadows yesterday and saw 4 young orphaned Kangaroos with their carers. They were sleeping in special knitted pouches and 2 of them were being bottle fed. It was both cute and sad.

I will certainly be checking out Aldinga Scrub as we have Koalas up here but no Roos.
