A drive to Lake Alexandrina

We had a lovely ride out to see the full waters of Lake Alexandrina yesterday.

It's a lovely area,quiet and somehow desolate in parts.

Lots of waterbirds around this time,especially pelicans.

Fantastic to see much more water in the lake now.

The last time we visited the water was about 300 metres from the end of the Milang jetty!

 

 

The holiday shacks at Milang look so ramshackle and deserted!

 

 

We were not stuck for a toilet though!!!

 

 

On a dirt track we ran over a very long (about 2 metres) snake!

He was not happy but then just turned back - I thought we'd squished him.!

My advise would be to not get out of the car if you think you have squished a snake - they are tougher than you think!!!

Tyke your pics are amazing, we went last summer with the intention of windsurfing bit there was no water!!! We're def going to have a drive out there soon now to have a good look round! Thanks jc x

thats similar to the only time ive been down there .......about 3 years ago.......maybe a little bit fuller...............a big expanse of water.

There is not exactly a lot to do in this area.

 

Langhorne Winery?

 

It's a very quiet area but we love the peace and serenity.

 

Great just driving around and exploring - you never know what you will find.

 

Not too far away is Strathalbyn , Goolwa and Victor Harbor.

I have to say that the last bit of the drive reminded me a bit of the wilder parts of Somerset where the orchards were left to go back to nature and there were deserted homesteads and broken down farm machinery, the scenery was flat and there was absolutely no-one around. I felt like I was in a Stephen King novel - wouldn't want to break down there in case the village idiot came round the corner with an axe...but maybe that's just my imagination running away with me!

Definitely worth the drive if you are already down that way - if you haven't checked out Goolwa yet that's worth a look too. Microbrewery on the dock and a Sunday market with food and craft stalls.
