Where can we park up a camper van?

We have recently bought a small camper van, as most camp sites are 2 or 3 nights minimum we just want 1 night in places, can we just park up in car parking spaces near the beach? I haven't seen any signs to say we cant do it, just wondered if there were any rules we need to know? Any help thanks.

ive always found campsites are cool with 1 night if need be, usually over xmas or school holidays they might not be so keen but everytime we have been travelling 1 night was always acceptable.
