Out and about with the dogs???

So was wondering just how doggy friendly/unfriendly south australia is? When we migrate we will most likely be bringing our dogs. Here we are used to just getting them in the car driving five minutes into the countryside and letting them off lead to roam the fields/paths etc and was wondering how easy it would be to do this out there? Have read a little about off leash parks and beaches etc, but for example if we we were to just have a wander in the hills/bush/countryside are there any specific rules about dogs being on leads or is this just in built up residential areas?

Aussies love their dogs. There are heaps of dog beaches and dog parks. We let ours roam freely in the Sturt Gorge which is beautiful.
