When you get here come and visit me. I have heaps of different kinds of spiders in this house (walked into a golden orb weaver on the way in tonight, YUK). It'll give you a first hand idea of what to expect and how to avoid them. Ken come too and we can have group theropy, hahahaha.
I have always been terrified of spiders. Not knowing the ones you get here before I came until I met them face to face hasn't stopped me loving this place.
Just remember not to have bushes by your letterbox and spray it from time to time. LOL, one day I put my hand in and came out with a giant spider, freck me out big time. A few years later I put my hand in and felt something so you can image I freaked out... was a liazrd, hehehehe.

Can't say i'm worse off for the experience, I was in the outback at the time, they're stamping ground.
I don't remember even seeing one inside while in the city, though the spiders are a lot more aggresive than the one's over here, spray spray and spray I reckon!!!
Yes, I think a group will be more time efficient given the number of comments about spider fears!!! I have always been struck by the number of Australians who hate spiders too, naively I thought they wouldn't be that bothered. I guess like a lot of people have been saying, you don't have to like them, you just have to get used to them. And there is always that spray - perhaps we could band together and buy shares in the company that produces it, although using our own profit shares to buy more spray would defeat the purpose of making money from the shares in the first place!!
HUNSTMANS, SCORPINS, REDBACKS..........think i'm gonna be sick really really really dont do spiders or anything that crawls and looks ugly what i'm i going to do HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dont forget the 4inch centipedes!

The house centipede is the main bug that eats all other nasty bugs and are perfectly harmless, just look funny.

Talking of bug spray. They have recently released a new one that is plant based and not as harmful to people or animals, and slithgly more environmentally friendly. Plus it smells nicer.
My main tip is tip your shoes (or stand on them then tip) before you put them on everytime and don't leave dirty laundry piles for too long. These are the two areas I always get the red centipede, millipedes and white-tip spiders. Huntsmen are always above the door and wolf spiders are always on my kitchen floor (no matter which house I'm in). And to show that it's not all bad... I had 4 kangaroos in the garden today
I have been living in Glenelg since Nov 2007 and have only seen 1 spider which was on my patio so I just got my dustpan and killed it DEAD!!!!.
I know exactly how you feel we arrive 18th August and i know the first thing i will be looking for is spiders and cockroachers erg!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We did live in Australia for a year a long time ago and i was lucky enough never to see the big hairy variety but im sure coming to live for good i may come across a few. God help us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aug 16th... just in time for the weather to start warming up.
It's freezing here at present, only a low 18 tomorrow although the weekend is set to be slightly higher and sunny. I forgot to gather wood so I'm sitting here with my jumper on trying to save money and not put the heater on, LOL.
Hopefully you won't seen too many bugs down on the flats. Unfortunately my scorpions & centipedes has turned into an infestation and I need to get some people in to help. But I'm not complaining cuz I'd rather them to the spiders any day. :)
