Hi All,

Firstly, I love this website... I used to sit it my London flat and read all the posts and have a real laugh along at everyones adventures and mis-adventures!

I am actually a born and bred Adelaidian and as funny as it would sound to all of you I spent my life trying to get as far away from this place as possible!! I ended up in London and met a charming Englishman and the rest as they say is history! We married in January this year and have now moved back to Adelaide, near Marion. (South of city) So I feel I can join this group because I married a pom... and I should get something for that! :)

Problem is - after 3 or so years away I'm really struggling to fit back into life here. I miss London and honestly it's mainly because I miss our friends. We haven't met many people in Adelaide and I drifted from my old friends whilst o/s.

My husband and I are in our mid twenties with no children and simply should not be watching telly every friday and saturday night! :arghh: If I watch another NCIS I swear I'm going to scream! :)

I would love for us meet any other young couples/ individuals that are keen to extend their friendship group. We're not crazy clubbers but we're really easy going and love a beer at a pub or drinking wine pretty much anywhere! With summer fast approaching we'd love to get the bbq going and actually have people to invite over besides my Mum and Dad!! My husband is mad into foootball (both AFL and EPL)...and I'd love to force him into a soccer team here so he can have mates again!

Well thank you for reading... we'll be seeing you!

Alana and Rich.... mainly Alana to be fair - Rich doesn't actually know I've done this

Welcometo PIA Alana and Rich.

All are welcome:) ya don't have to be a born and bred pom to be in here - they accept me and I'm from Yorkshire - which is a whole different kettle of fish:goofy:

You've made the first in giving a shout out for friends and discussing your life here - rather than bottling it up.

A problem shared is a problem halved as they say.

There is a lot of thriving social groups in here - just look for the meets and turn up!

Hi Alana. Welcome. I am also Australian with an Irish husband - no one's ever held it against me on here. We moved back early last year and I can definitely share your feelings of displacement. In many ways, Adelaide is completely different from when I first left and, in too many ways perhaps, it is exactly the same. However, although I miss my London friends terribly, I am happy to be here. We're not young (well, not as young as you) and we are quite fond of the odd episode of NCIS, but please don't hold that against us - we are more fond of alcohol. I see you live in our general area so, once the sun returns, we could get a few people together for a BBQ. Good luck,

Tracey

Hi Alana (and Rich)

Where abouts did you live in London -I'm from the North London (don't hold that against me!) My other half is an aussie and we'd love to meet up for a beer We live in Underdale but are always around the Marion area!

Like the idea of getting a few people together for a barbie or a beer or both!

Hi Alanna

Myself and my hubbie are in our late twenties, no kids. We moved here 4 months ago from Ireland (born and bred:) ) - we're living in the Glenelg area, so not too far from you. We've not made many friends here as of yet. We'd love to get together some time.

Hi Alanna

Worth sending a PM to a user on here called Suzer - she organises regular (childfree) expat get togethers in a pub in the city so a great opportunity to meet others of all nationalities in Adelaide. I believe her OH is from Adelaide, and she's from the US, so similar - only in reverse! - to you guys!

She also runs a Facebook site for expats in Adelaide - again, all nationalities. I probably have the link somewhere but easiest thing is to drop her a line.

Good luck

Diane

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for your messages! I'm really glad I took the leap and put a message up!

It's too easy to forget that you're not the only people in this situation!

Tracey really hit the nail on the head... this displacement is the hardest thing. I don't think I had truly realised how much I had changed and grown as a person throughout my years abroad until I returned to Adelaide - which really hadn't changed at all.

Adelaide is a wonderful city and I know this is the best move for us right now, it's just that I thought it would be my husband who would struggle with the move - he's the one coming to a whole new country! As it turned out, he's loving it and I'm the one missing England! :err: How easily one forgets the cold! lol...

I will work out this PM thing and get in touch with people! Once again thank you all for your messages of support and for extending the hand of friendship!

We look forward to meeting with some of you soon

Alana

We both left London a couple of months ago (over 20 years in London for me) and have a young child (don't let that put you off). But contrary to belief, we do have a life outside of being parents and like a laugh, our son isn't all we talk about and we do enjoy going out and having a drink or two... I know that Glenn particulary misses going out for a few pints and chatting about football for hours and hours... We're in Glengowrie if any one fancies getting in touch.

Hi Alana,

I also recently joined poms in Adelaide for the same reason as you. I am australian, i met a pom whilst working in the uk. I have recently returned back to Adeliade and my partner Richard is moving to Australia in 3 weeks time from Oxford. We both love to socialise, have a drink and just chill out. I would love to catch up with you both for a drink when Richard arrives. we live in Sheidow Park which is quite close. Richard also has no idea i have signed up to poms in Adelaide yet.... ha ha :)
