in the process of submitting the application for Australian Recognised Trade Certificate to enable him to get a licence and start work asap - can anyone help with the exact classification for SA tra- is it Electrical fitter or electrical mechanic?
thank you if you can help.

Sorry cannot help much with your electrician question - just wanted to say welcome to the forum
hi lisa, thanks for welcome. hope someone can advise. cheers, John.
electrical mechanic is aimed at the installation side of things and electrical fitter at maintenance
this is what i've once got to the same question:
"Electrical mechanic licence is an open electrical work licence.
An electrical mechanic can perform all electrical work.
install or change an overhead electrical line
install electrical wiring
repair any electrical equipment
Refer to Section 34 of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2002 (PDF, 801 KB) for more information on eligibility requirements for an electrical mechanic licence.
Electrical fitter licence allows you to perform electrical equipment work.
rewinding and repairing an electric motor
building and assembling a switchboard
Refer to Section 36 of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2002 (PDF, 801 KB) for eligibility requirements for an electrical fitter licence.
taken straight from the electrical safety office web site qld
ps link for thoose wishing to read more
http://www.dir.qld.gov.au/electrical...ences/classes/ " (please note that it's for qld, apparently sa is not as strict ?!?!?)
we are not there just yet but soon we'll have to look into this too
Can't help you but a big warm welcome to PIA from moi!!
Hoping all goes well for you.
My husband in the same boat. He phoned TRA and the advise he got was to put both titles on the application. In fact they told him to put on as many 'titles' as he thought described what he does. He went with Electrical Mechanic and Electrical Fitter.
Hope this helps
