Finally arriving 22nd sept

Hi Myself, hubby and 2 sons and daughter (all teenagers) are arriving in Adelaide on Wednesday. Staying in rental in Port Noarlunga for 4 weeks - rented from Tamara - Homes Down Under and will be frantically looking for more permanant rental from 20th October but unsure of what area as all depends on jobs, schools etc. Found this site very helpful, hope to attend one of the many meetings arranged on here in the future. See you all soon.

Good luck with the journey..its an adventure alright.....plenty of folk on this side all too willing to help newbies..we have all been there at some point some a bit longer ago than others....

Safe journey - you will find a rental - just start looking as soon as you arrive and work out where you want to settle...seaford/aldinga are all nice and affordable (bit further south to P Noarlunga)- just depends on the location you are after. Good luck!

Hi MaggsnTrev. Welcome to Adelaide. I just arrived in North Adelaide with my teenage daughter so we are in the same boat re schools and jobs.

We arrived in 4 September, and got our longterm rental a week later. If you already know which school you want your children to go to, just concentrate to find house in the school zone. School is obliged to enrol your children if you live in the zone, no matter how full the school is.

 

Another tip: bring your family CV, bank statement, and if you could afford, say that you are willing to pay three months in advance. That's what we did, but in the end, we still pay weekly although the estate agent wanted us to pay 3 months. It happened because probably forgot about it, as the agent who dealt with us first time, was different with the one that saw us for the contract.

Thank you for your replies. Arrived Wednesday and currently in short term rental in Port Noarlunga (Tamara's rental - lovely house very homely). Managed to file for TFN online, change driving licences, apply for Medicare, activate bank accounts, buy car and look at rental oh and send off application for Ambulance cover- Trevor is off at PEER doing his 2 day assessment for Electrical Wiring. Now thats all done can relax and enjoy!! or sleep and get over the jetlag

Thanks Sarah - took the application into the office yesterday so fingers crossed - see what you mean about some of the rentals - viewed another one last night - lets say did not pick up application form!!!!
