Hello fellow Poms, I've recently moved to Adelaide with my wife and two sons from Wiltshire England.

We're currently living by the beach and really loving the weather, although I've been told it's not a very hot summer this year!

Any tips etc about Adelaide and job hunting would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks for your welcome guys.

We are living in Marino at present so just a hop, skip and jump from the beach.

I am a Project Engineer with my specialty being automotive engineering so would love to do something similar over here.

Alternatively give me a job working in this lovely weather all day :)

So you say, ask, ask, ask, here we go...

1. Best seafood restaurants around

2. Good family days out (sons still very young)

3. Places to meet and get involved in circles of new friends

4. Any good scuba diving clubs anyone can recommend

thanks again

Welcome to the forum guys...we too live near the beach.....

Aldinga Beach to be exact.....what line of work are you in?

What do you want to do and what do you want to now....just ask ask ask..

Hi eveyone!

Just wondering if anyone is heading out there in April?

My partner and I will be going over, and thought it would be great to meet up with others in similar situation?

Hi Sara

You wont be out here too long after us!

We too brought our dog with us 'Woodie'. He is an English Springer Spaniel so good luck with the processes.

Hi and welcome :)

Also from Wiltshire (Trowbridge to be exact). Been here for 4 months so still finding our way around, but our things are finally here so feeling a lot more like home!

Seek is a good website, also do not forget the Sat Advertiser for job listings.

I think there was a recent post for a job seeking event coming up that will help you with cv & interview techniques.

As far as networking, there's often a PIA get together I think 1st Sunday of every month which is good. Also when we arrived and went to our local council we were given a directory that lists clubs in your area.

How old are your boys?

Always happy to get together and meet new people so give me a shout :)

Kind Regards

Von x

Hey guys.

Me and my wife live in Glenelg. Originally from Poole in Dorset.

If your in that area give us a shout for a beer/coffee ;)

I was lucky enough to get a job before we came out for a software firm but I used seek for all my applications. I just had to make sure that my covering letters were directly targetting the job I was applying for and that seem to get me the interviews.

We were in Brisbane last year for 3 months and I managed to get a job within a week of arriving and that was using the seek website.

Good luck with the job hunting.

Paul

  • 4 years later...

you might want to work up a second CV that down- plays the Auto Engineering angle, given that both Mitsubishi and Holden are ceasing production.

-That said, there are still shorter contracts for the right people project engineering in mining, and freight (-how do you and your family feel about you getting a few runs on the board with FIFO contracts?). Also keep an eye on where the Submarine and Destroyer projects are going to be situated.

-You might conceivably have an advantage as a clean skin applying for these, given the Japanese consortium say they would prefer to train from the beginning, if they get the gig.

Also, as you will already know, it's the killer cover letter that gets you the interview (- the CV is generally used to weed out applicants-)
