With regards to housing, we have been looking at
a lot to get an idea on prices etc, they have lots of info on there imho, including 'reviews' on different areas, which has been interesting if nothing else. The reviews bit is here
(that's obviously for Hallett cove, but you can look at any area you are interested in, just search for it :) )
I believe once you have 3 months paychecks and an ok deposit you should be ok for a morgage - 20% deposit is reckoned to be good from what I have been reading (if you have less, perhaps it was 10% or less, you need to take out low deposit insurance which obviously adds to your costs). I have also read on various places that 3 times salary is a good ready reckoner, however using the calculators on the various real estate agents websites it seems a lot more - not sure I really believe that though, we are still working on about 3 times. Must add, this is purely from research and not personal experience - we are still a long way off getting there unfortunately.
Again, from research, (and imho) the healthcare system sounds really really good. I'm sure the other thread tells you all about it, but will add you need ambulance cover (as I don't think this can be said enough from what others have said lol).
Good luck with it all and enjoy :)
Nice to see Im not the only one in this boat!
Friends wise, Im bringing it up slowly but kept it quiet for quite a while. Had to share as Im about to be made redundant and friends couldn't understand why I wasn't applying for new teaching jobs to start in September. Luckily as we have been away before they know that our friendships will stay solid as long as we make the effort.
One evening my MIL happened to mention, that although she has a brother in Australia she would never go there.....and so 'The dream began'... I made sure my next business trip was down under and the rest is history....8>)
A she would never get on the plane!!
B I don't talk to her so I can be doubly sure of A
Just to be sure I may fly in to a different state send the oh dear we have emigrated post card from what ever state then she will think we live there instead SA, sounds like a plan to me hehehe (evil giggle!!!)

That's where you and me differ, the first thing I will do is ring MIL at home and make sure she is still in England. To make it really worthwhile I will off course 'accidentally' forget the time difference !!!
Eee you naughty mil haters how terrible.......mwahahaha! Love it
