Hi all

I have been living in Adealide now for 13 years with my hubby and two kids, now aged 21 and 18.If I can help anyone out with advice or anything let me know, happy to help. I know it is very daunting starting life in a new country. We love it and the kids have grown up now not knowing anything different. get back to Uk as often as we can but affording it is another thing. No family over here so always the pull to go back, but we love the aussie weather and the great outdoors life style in the south.

Hi, glad you enjoy adelaide, we are coming on 25th oct to live and are staying with friends in beaumont, we really want to live near the beach and send kids to good schools, we just think its a case of looking around and getting a feel for places before we decide.. What a wonderful life it is for the children i hope yours are very happy, and that our children who are 12 and 8 have a happy life there too. Where do you live and what school did the kids go to? Can you tell us what we should buy before we come that may be difficult to get in adelaide? Thanks rachel

Hi rachel. We started off by renting while we searched around for where we wanted to set down roots. With no family here it was quite hard to start but we liked it in the south as near to all the beaut beaches and not far to travel into the city etc. After a year of renting and obtaining perminent residency we decided to build in Happy Valley, where we still live. Lots of open space and 30 mins into city, 10 mins to beach. Our kids went to Reynella East Primary School and then onto High School, one at Reynella East and one at Aberfoyle Park. i am of the opion that if kids want to learn they will do well in any school. My son now currently goes to Flinders University and my daughter moved out to live with friends. Both are doing well and yes it is a better life for kids here I think. You can get most things here ok. I find bedding a little expensive here, Oh Aussies call it Manchester by the way (sheets and doonas etc). Not such a wide variety of prepacked food I suppose over here but that is not a bad thing. I was awe struck when I went back to London and saw all the different stuff you could get in the shops back there now. here you just adapt that is the exciting thing about living in a new country just go with the flow. Enjoy your new adventure Jaffa
