Hello to all - I've lived in SA for many years, came here in 1965 with my family as a reluctant and somewhat grumpy adolescent but after I got over myself I found myself enjoying it here. I realise that because I have gone native I may not be that useful for info but if I can help with a perspective then I'm only too happy to do so. Anyway, good luck to those of you who are planning to come here or are making your way in life here, sometimes it's not easy but it's worth a go. I mean, when we first came here we had to live in a cardboard box at bottom of lake....nah you don't believe that for one minute do you?

Welcome to the site - I'm sure you'll be able to help lots with some insider knowledge. Have you ever been back to the mother country? Are all your family over here now? Must have seen a few changes in Adelaide since you've been here....

Went back in 1978 and 1982 (only there for a month before taking off around Europe in a campervan for several months that was fun) and in April and May this year. I noticed huge differences in England this year - everything was very modern and spiffy and London was actually clean although roadworks everywhere and Londoners a bit grumpier than usual (settle down, I was born at Guys and lived in Sarf London and SE London). I loved Manchester and Newcastle, hadn't been before, found the folks up there really friendly and helpful. Yes seen a few changes in SA, it was really buttoned down in 1965 and while it might seem a bit socially conservative now it was bloody awful back then!
