My husband and I are moving to Adelaide in March, from Bristol (well I'm N. Irish and he's a scouser originally- god help Adelaide!!). Neither of us have ever been to Australia before, but figured what the h*ll, life's too short and all that. Hoping to get the opportunity to learn from you more experienced guys and meet some of you on the sunny side!

I went to Adelaide 2002 and it was lovely, my friend has been out there 13 years now but born OZ same as my husband we move in 2012 july / august time, you need to do lots of research before hand and know what you want to do and have many goals to aim at when you arrive especially where you want to live which will also depend on what type of people you are, i do not want city life but need to consider kids too. I also know other people in OZ same as my eldest daughter which helps. Hope you enjoy OZ and i agree life is too short and its good to have a positive attitude to change.

Thanks! We have been looking at Glenelg, Henley Beach and Brighton areas- basically coastal, but near the city and having nice bars/places to socialise. We don't have any kids and I guess would classify ourselves as 'young professionals' (I'm a bit younger than him- heehee). I'm 33 and he's 41. I'm hoping I'm on the right wavelength concentrating these areas!

hi yes you are they are lovely areas know a family in Brighton but expensive, hallet cove is nice too, know someone there well my eldest does, those in Brighton lived in hallet cove too but moved to the schools zone area in brighton. we are looking at hallet cove, we did brighton but its the expense but its still on the list just in case, my friends live in seaford which is further south but lovely. we are more your husbands age LOL!! but good choice of places to live and rather popular with the brits. I've been researching for years.

Hello Purple,

I am too is going to Adelaide in 10 days time yepee! I have 2 kids ages 10 and 7 yrs old. Do you have kids? I am 35 years and hubby is 46 so we are not that far behind in ages. Good luck in your move and hopefully when you get here and wants someone to talk to give me a buzz here and would we could meet up for a cuppa.

We go to Brighton frequently and it only takes 15 minutes max (and we're right up in the hills nearly 30K south of CBD) but you are never too far from one in this city. House prices are a little cheaper 'inland' too. There are some good city suburbs which are are cosmopolitan, close to all ammenities and great for socialising too. The southern coastal areas are also popular too - Hallett Cove down to Aldinga and lots in between.

 

Glenelg and Henley are lovely but rather expensive as they are so near the city

jtct, that sounds good. It's hard to envisage areas and travelling times until you get there! I think we are going to try to stay in the middle of the action for 6 months, until we get sorted, get a car, meet people and then consider more long term accommodation. Exciting!
