Morning All!

Myself and my wife are considering a move to Australia and possibly Adelaide following a recent holiday and visiting family members in Adelaide. Following our visit, we came back generally positive although as with all countries there were a few negatives. What seemed to make Adelaide welcoming was its size and atmosphere which seemed better than Melbourne which suffered from big city syndrome ie not feeling welcoming and being too busy.

We have a couple of dilemmas being that we both enjoy our work and are happy with our current lives however I look at others who have made the move with envy and believe it may be a good adventure for us to experience. My profession seems to be in high demand in Australia especially inthe larger cities (I’m a chartered construction project/contracts manager)meaning my career progression should be a lot quicker in Australia in addition to the quality of life being better.

I am currently mid-way through 175 Visa application with all paperwork with Vetassess with the aim of having the final visa application in prior to July 12. We have so many questions many of which are very simple or will give assurance however some maybe a little harder and may need specialist advise.

To kick off,

Which are the best employment agents in Adelaide and what is the construction sector like at the moment? Seemed to be a lot more building there than in UK at the moment especially around the universities.

How many people have succeeded in keeping their UK house and renting and securing a mortgage in Australia and what is the tax implications?

What are the best burbs to be considering, I like North Adelaide and Brighton areas but how do they compare? I would not want to be too far out of town. We stayed right on the outskirts of the CBD which was great although we may prefer a little quieter, something with say 3 beds and front and rear gardens (not a yard).

Is it best to haul your furnishings or buy new?

That will do for now however I’m sure 10's more questions will follow.

I don't have much knowledge on many of your questions, but North Adelaide and Brighton are fabulous areas - if money is no issue, you can't go wrong! If you like those areas I'd also look at Glenelg, Glenelg South, Hove, Somerton Park & both North and South Brighton, and the suburbs surrounding North Adelaide. North Adelaide would be great for proximity to the city, eastern suburbs and all the great dining/shopping in North Adelaide itself, plus nice walks into the city - but then at Brighton you have the gorgeous beach...

We were very impressed with Brighton and surrounding areas with wide streets and house with gardens etc. I would hope to earn quite well with my wife topping up earnings so not sure what mortgage potential would be however would not want to stretch too far.

We spent a few hours in Brighton on the beach and getting a coffee, most importantly it has a 'sip and save drive through'......seriously who thought they were a good idea? Whole area seemed nice and would maybe looking for a brick built do-er upper.

Oh well keep dreaming with fingers crossed visa's go through with no issues. Any agency or company suggestions?

We are looking at moving to Grange, had a look on city hobo and it looks just right. Not to far from the city about 20min and right on the beach! We are hoping to be on our way by November!

Have also found out that on the 176 visa if your renting your house in England then along as you show you pay the tax in England then you don't need to pay tax in OZ from the income of that rent.

Fingers crossed for you.
