Where are my manners?

Recommended Posts

My name is Emmie and I was born in London but lived in Canada, Scandinavia and Central America working with the Canadian government.

I've been living in the Adelaide area for roughly 4 years, married to an Australian. I am out of public service (thank God) and now work in the private sector and study law p/t with the goal of specialising in business law.

Glad to have found this little forum in cyberspace!

Hi Emmie, we aren't in Adelaide yet but have also lived in Canada! Eldest daughter born there, 60k east of Toronto. You must like Adelaide, been there 4 years?! And a quick hi to Kingpin as my son is a Nathaniel too (7)...and I am a Sarah!

Well, our arrival a moot point at the mo, having to try a different path to get there, hubby job offer didn't work out (didn't get grant funding, a Uni job) so in process of applying for a 475 in my name now (I am a nurse but newly qualified and OLD!!! so can't get enough points for a PR). Although as it isn't a PR so I am nervous about it, that we get there, may not get another visa when we apply and then get sent back here! How long have you been over there?

Apologies Emmie, have hijacked your thread, where are my manners now!!

Plenty of people come over temp visas and get PR after a couple of years. I really hope it works out for you and you get to Adelaide soon! Are you using an Migration Agent at all?

I have had a long conversation and an email with an agent but undecided about using them to apply etc, as it is so pricey! And all the info is online. Did you use an agent?

We didn't use an agent because we had a fairly straightforward case. Plus my husband loves filling in forms!! We would have used one though had there been any uncertainty regarding points. I know some people on here have found them invaluable. Hope it works out for you soon.

Thanks for the welcome. My expertise lies in suggesting to wear earplugs and an eye mask on planes!

Welcome to the site - I'm very envious of all the places you have lived! You must be the world's expert on migrating and settling into new places, so hopefully there are lots on here who will be picking your brains over the next weeks/months/years!

East of TO, I certainly have an idea of the suburbs. I think that I substitute what John F Kennedy said, along the lines of asking not what Adelaide can do for me yet what can I do for Adelaide. Not quite 4 years but it feels like a decade!
