Hi all,

we have family emigrating to Adelaide this year and am currently beginning to weigh up the pro s and cons of moving out there... I am a newly qualifield nurse and my husband is an engineer/Production Manager and was wondering what the job market is like in Adelaide?

Any opinions would be appreciated

Belinda

Hi Belinda, You've raised some great questions. I'd say that both of your occupations would be sought here in SA but better to have a look at this website: http://joboutlook.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx It provides a projection of careers in demand here in Australia. Yes, there's lots of PR's and VISAs being issued for the 'skill shortage' but I've come across many not so new migrants that have turned to retail, cab driving and cleaning jobs because they can't get work in their field. Definitely keep asking questions, and where possible start applying for work before you arrive in Adelaide. Any more questions, let me know.

Hiya, although nurses are still in demand here there has been problems lately in recruiting the graduate nurses (they cant get jobs and i feel in the firing line at times). Many jobs are casual or temporary unless you are skilled such as neonates. as far as the job goes its the exzact opposit of working in the NHS. Good pay, better staffing levels, get breaks, leave on time, ect.. although i feel that i have deskilled since being here, im deffinately not stressed like the uk.
