hi kadina :-)

we're going to adelaide, don't know yet which suburb we'll settle in. you're right, it is a new life, for all of us, and as excited as I am, I know it's going to be tough too. we have a 10 year old daughter and an 8 year old son.

we plan to validate our visa in October, but may well move before that.

did you emigrate? do you have any advice as to which suburbs have good schools, and are good areas to live with a reasonably young family?

thanks so much for messaging :-)

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Congrats on the visa and good luck on planning the move.

If you've specific questions to ask our members your best bet is to post in the various sub forums around this one. So if you want to ask about schools, post in the Education section. If asking about where to live, Renting and Real Estate or just ask in the News and Chat section and make it a bit more open. Also make use of recent threads where people have asked similar and been given replies. You may find stuff of interest in those :)

I do think where you live is often decided on where you work. So whoever is going to be commuting or needing to be near work or easy access to a route to it etc, you should work out from that for a place in the longer term. There are lots of options so I am sure you'll find something.

Feel free to ask them again, we don't mind :) My suggestion of reading recent threads on similar was that you may find things of interest or that you hadn't considered and so can research more or ask different questions of us here then. Or you may even find some answers that tick all your boxes. Everyone is different and even things like schools, we all have differences in what we are looking for. Of course, we want to send our kids to the school we feel is best for them, but what is best for one isn't for another. There is nothing like an Ofsted rating here so you don't have that as guideline if you use Ofsted as a benchmark in the UK.

oh ok Adelaides a pretty big place depends if you want beach , city or hills really its very different depending on what you choose, more city side suited us before we had the kids but now we live further down south for the better beaches, but there are still good beaches close to the city really depends what you want. Schooling is very different here and lots of people go private (not necessarily any better in my opinion) the schools are not as good as the UK so you just need to get used to that, but you may like the way they do things here, you certainly get used to it, they are very laid back with things just put it that way :) I have a 6 year old daughter and nearly 8 year old son, we are living in Port Noarlunga which is lovely but a commute to the city if you want to work there its not ideal but people do it, yes we emigrated in 2000 and went back to the UK for a bit and have just come back, most of Adelaide is great for families its that sort of place, feel free to Private message me any time xx all the best

Hi Tracy & family welcome to the site!

Our daughters were 10 & 7 when we moved - about the same ages as yours and they love it here in Australia. We settled in the southern suburbs.....housing is more affordable, friendly neighbours and lovely beaches. Hubby works in the city and he commutes on the train daily. I spent 25 driving to work in the University.

Have a look at Moana, Seaford, Seaford Rise, Port Noarlunga South and Port Noarlunga.

Good luck with all your research

Sarah :-))

Hello & welcome Tracy...& huge congratulations of getting your visa!!

I'm planning on moving end Feb/beg March (depending on our property sale!) have PR visa already & cannot wait to go! Just at the stage of sorting household belongings ready for shipping! So ask away if you have any questions! (we have no children so have no idea about child related info lol).

I'm organising a meet up in Yorkshire (see thread on socialising section) for beg Feb, its the 2nd one there, but been to a few & we met some lovely people at the 1st, shared some useful ideas & advice. You're very welcome to join us too, but if it's too far or you can't make it, I would definitely recommend going to any occurring near you, its the best way to meet others going through exactly same as yourselves.

This site is the best & has kept me sane throughout my journey so far, you will always find your answers, either directly or by searching through past threads, everyone is extremely helpful.

Best of luck with your journey, Mandi x

Congratulations on the visa :)

We were granted our 190 back in November and are currently planning our fact finding/validation trip for August & hope to move out sometime in 2015, hoping the beginning end rather than the later end!!

Have you ever been to Adelaide before?

We're hoping to make the meet that Mandi is arranging, & can't wait to meet people in a similar situation as ourselves!

hi tom and amy

congratulations on getting your visa! my husband lived in adelaide whilst playing cricket, for about 8 months, over 20 years ago! we then had one of his aus friends over to live with us for the english cricket season. (all his memories are therefore fabulous with quite a bit of alcohol involved lol!)

so we know a couple of people there.

our daughter Eden is 10, and our little boy max is 8.

we plan to either be out in adelaide by October, but if we're not ready by then we'll do the validation trip :-)

we'd love to try and make mandi's get together, tho it's a long way for us, we're living in Cambridge.

either way, I already feel like I'm going to make some good friends here :-))

hi Bianca!

I hope your visa comes thru soon! ours was granted on New Year's Eve, it was an amazing feeling!

our daughter Eden has just turned 10, and our little boy max is about to turn 8, and we'd really like to be out and settled long before Eden needs to start high school.

do let me know when your visa comes thru? we'll be in pretty much the same positions!

?

thanks so much for your message! we'd love to try and make your get together, tho we live in Cambridge so it might be a bit too far?

I hope everything goes really smoothly for you, I can imagine the excitement and the nerves you've got going on! feel excited for you :-)

I'm still figuring out how to use this site properly, but I'm blown away by the friendliness of everyone, and how much help people offer! I'm so so grateful to good old google!!
