Hi,

My husband and myself are nearing the end of the migration process and nxt wk have to have our medicals. So unless we have some deadly disease we plan to be in adelaide b4 christmas!!

Anyone able to tell us what to expect from the medicals and any clues to what they may refuse us on? (like being a little unfit and podgy!! ):biglaugh:

We can't wait to be over there and have been planning this since our honeymoon last Jan, just gotta sell the house, crate the dogs and then we're there

(sound simple doesn't it!!)

Hi we seem to be in a similiar situation have lodged our visa application and about to put house up for sale we're gonna wait a couple of months b4 going for meds tho (cos think have a year to validate visa from date of meds or pc's which ever comes first) however if alot of interest in house will go for meds straight away cos you get to know in a couple of weeks whether you have passed medical and failing meds would then be the only thing holding us up)

Good luck hope all goes well

Hi' Angie. just had meds done today,(southampton) .me the mrs,and 2 kids . Like you we were warried about them as well ?. But a piece of cake, Had xrays done in morning. I use to smoke , so anxious about xrays you never know?. But all ok thank god!. It was very casual all 4 of us went in to see the Doc at once, a quick look at the kids , eye test looked in ears ,my eldest 6 years old had to do a sample mum went with her, then doc showed her what he was doing to test urine sample that was it for them . We had blood test which was really quick ,only a small amount, hieight and weight mrs ok but iam a stone over weight (ish) but did not say anything about that and i don't know anyone who has failed because of being over weight?. did not ask about hobbies or what exersise we do ?, or don't do!. my over all impression was the doctor was very friendly to all my famaily and i got all warried up ,for nothing so easy to say NOW???. take it all in your stride Angie what will be we be good luck hun. atb Paul

They will go through the form you filled out and ask any appropraite questions, do height weight Blood pressure simple eye check. abdominal exam adn I had a breast examination blood tests for 3 of us Youngest got away with out the blood test as she was only 13 but the 15 year old had to have it. she listened to our chests checked our ears too. but dr was very nice and nurse to do Blood test was very chatty too. had ours in Bournemouth area.

Also had to do urine sample while we were there, and then the really painful part....the paying for the privilege nearly £1000 for Xrays and medicals.

still hope it will be worth it when in a few years we will be sitting on a beach in Adelaide

Hello everyone.

I have not posted on the site for a while as been having stressfull time with house sale.:arghh:

Anyway we too have booked our medicals for 28th May. We are going to Huddersfield. I am so nervous because I hate having blood tests. I actually feel faint writing about it, never mind having the test. Thank god I have no tattoo's or pearcings because I think you have to have extra test.

Had our meds last Thursday (£868 for a family of 5.) Doctor was fantastic and great with the kids (11, 9 and 4) but very thorough. He spent 30 minutes with each of us and we were there for the full 2 1/2 hours they had said (felt better about the money though...) Xrays were done earlier in the day and the Doctor pretty much told us unless blood tests came back with a problem (HIV) we were one of the healthiest families he'd seen. I have to say I starved myself down to a healthy BMI (been eating ever since) but OH was a stone overweight and it wasn't mentioned. Think it depends where you are how much time they take.

Hi we have our medicals this coming Monday!Myself, hubby and 4 kids aged 3 to 10!And to make matters worse our 3 year old had a bad accident 6 weeks ago on a trampoline and snapped his arm completely in half(yes hanging loose)from the elbow! Not just the awful break in the bone which had to be pinned but his muscles, ligaments, tissues but whats giving us the most concern is the nerve damage!

Been back and forth to Alder hey hospital to be told this week he has permanent nerve damage (hand like a limpless claw)We had guessed it was bad!He now has to have physio twice a week at the hospital and wear a arm splint to help keep things in as normal position as possible! They have told us he will need surgery to try to reconnect the nerves probably(but no guarantee)and that all this could take 12 to 18 months! We plan to be in Adelaide by September!!

I thought the main worry we had was my high blood pressure but now i'm terrified Matthew may be too much of a liability for them and cost the Australian medicare too much to accept!Although we are willing to pay for whatever treatment he needs!

So wish us luck guys for this coming Monday!I am so worried about these medicals! My Blood Pressure will be out the roof before we even get there!

Dear Gill,

OUr thoughts & prayers with you! What a horrible accident and the timing couldn't be worse! I'm not particularly squeamish but the mere thought of you having to look at your babe with his arm hanging is enough to send me over the edge. I spent the entire two weeks before the meds banning all extreme sports (bannister sliding, tree climbing) and my children still looked like they had been beaten, bruised and scratched. Hopefully the panel doctor will give you some indication of their recommendation and all specialist reports, etc will be favourable. Accidents happen to anyone and I really hope it's not an issue!
