We have been here a year and made some lovely true friends ....but sadly some have moved away and would love to meet up with new folk that have teenage children and love a laugh and a get together ...we live down the south Nr Hallett Cove and we are very settled so if any of you guy's would like to meet up 1-1 0r a group just shout ...we were also thinking about doing a come dine with me house dinner party as we love that show and cooking thought that would be quite nice ...just reply to this or send us a personal message be lovely to hear from any of you we are from the south of England by the way :notworthy:

Sounds like fun, particularly if you get the random assortment of people they get on Come Dine lol!

 

There don't seem to be as many people from the south of England on here, probably because it's such a lovely place :wubclub: We came from Tonbridge, Kent; how about you? (Be so cool if you were also from there!)

I know this is a generalisation, but the reason I think is house prices. Average housing is far more expensive in the south of England and the costs in Sydney and the surrounds makes a move prohibitive.

 

Whilst I have lived here I have 'on the whole' found the UK migrants in SA are from the North of England, and the ones I deal with in NSW and VIC are from the the South.

 

I have no data or backup to this, so I could be wrong.

We have some Aussie friends who have been living in London for the past few years and they are coming back soon and they are now wondering whether Adelaide will be too quiet for them after living in London.

One of the reasons we chose Adelaide was we wanted to get way from a big city. There were other reasons too, but we thought why move from London to Sydney, except for the weather?

 

The 2 cities have the same issues, long commutes, high house pricing near the city, gridlock etc.

Possibly. Can depend on what you are looking for. Some people thrive on that. It all comes down to what each holds as important.

 

After London, it is nice to be able to travel easily, spend less time working and consequently less time with child in care (when he was young) and really Adelaide as a City has a lot to offer and increasingly so. There is great vibe in many pockets of Adelaide now - you just need to know where they are. The beauty is they are all accessible - whereas when we lived in London, it had just become too much like hard work to bother going in on the weekends - especially as we commuted in all week. Here it is no issue to go in to see a show, have dinner in town etc. Can drive and be home in 15mins - bliss. This is what we now value. Love Sydney and Melbourne for a holiday but love Adelaide to live.

We are from the South if England too, originally Haywards Heath, West Sussex, then Newhaven, East Sussex, so there are a few of us here ?

I am originally from Marlow in Bucks but spent the last 20 years living in various parts of London before coming to Adelaide 2 years ago!!

Sorry dont get on here Much Lol.......but have replied to everyone that have replied to this post on me inbox.....be lovely to meet you guy's be lovely to meet some new folk be lovely to meet you you and get in touch if there is any more meet up's we hoping to have a part in September but not sure yet...any meet ups let us know what a lovely group of people.....good times ahead :idea:

We are moving across knowing absolutely nobody in Adelaide, literally johnny no mates! Meet ups would be good to learn from each other's mistakes (I'm sure we will make many) and break the ice on the socialising front as I hear that Australian lot especially the ex poms are quite a different breed!:smile:
