Moving in October

Dear all,

We are moving in October (myself/wife and 2 year old girl). I have a job to start with and I was looking for a property north of the city as my work is in burton. Wondering any thoughts on areas to live. I have looked in property websites and noticed houses in Mawson lakes. Any thoughts regarding this area. secondly, my wife is an software engineer - any IT related jobs in adelaide ( I note it looks grim there at the minute). A golf fanatic (rubbish handicap) and would like to join the weekend golf. Your help is appreciated.

kind regards

Hi and welcome

Burton itself is not the greatest area, but there are plenty of good areas a short commute from there.

Mawson Lakes is a good option. The housing is modern and there is usually a lot of rentals in the area. It has good transport links to the city with a modern train station and the bus which goes on the O-Bahn. Technology Park and UniSA are both at Mawson Lakes so there could be some IT opportunities there. We like it, but some don't. Certainly nothing wrong with it for a starting point.

Other options are Greenwith / Golden Grove areas. Again a short drive to Burton and good transport to the city via O-Bahn if your wife gets work there.

There are lots of Golf Courses around, the one at ML is rubbish but can give you some swing practice after work.

Regarding IT jobs there's a massive health IT implementation going on at the moment in SA and there's also a big new hospital being built. imagine they'll be needing IT engineers. http://www.dpti.sa.gov.au . Also suggest looking at employment agencies etc who specialise in IT.

I've only just seen is thread or I would have replied earlier. Nice areas that you could commute to Burton from are places like Golden Grove, Fairview Park, Banksia Park, Highbury and Althelstone. Or you could go the other way and try Semaphore or West Lakes. Mawson Lakes is nice enough, although still quite a new estate and a lot of the houses are quite close together. A lot of the surrounding areas aren't quite so nice and I personally was not impressed by the senior school it is in the zone for. Not that much of an issue for you at the moment though.
