To be honest from a personal point of view things couldn't be much worse in Adelaide than here in the UK. With the fuel and household expenses going through the roof and my OH out of work the last 6 weeks we are sinking fast. We have had constant knock backs over the last 3 years and with the attitude of people when you seek help and advice we just want out. England is washed out and I have no faith in it anymore, I think as a Country it has let it's people down. We don't qualify for benefits we have applied for and it makes you wonder what you are paying towards. I think society itself is under so much pressure that nobody has time for each other anymore and everyone is so stressed out as there are so many of us in the same boat. I'm happy to cut my losses and start again. Like everyone has said we can always come back, what to I don't know!! I know it will be a struggle but I am ready to take on a new life and a new culture. We are struggling here to give our daughter anything now even a trip to the cinema is a struggle. We can hardly support our Son and it isn't a nice feeling. Morale and self asteem low and I'm hoping OZ is a dream. We need to do it so that we have no regrets and sit wondering 'what if' and dreams can only become a reality if you follow them.
Hope it lives up to your expectations?Best to keep and open mind I feel.(I've lived in Adelaide for 30 years)Oz is'nt better its just different.
Well I can but hope. At least the weather will be better!! As my OH a bricklayer and rained off here because of 'health and safety' half the time that will be a bonus straight away. The outdoor life supposed to good for the kids too. I have a good friend who lives in Gawler and my Godmother lives in Elizabeth South and they have never looked back. She is here at the moment as she has come to the UK for our wedding in 3 weeks and she said she misses her family that are still here but that's about it! Another friend of mine leaves for Adelaide with her Hubby in August as he is moving with his job so I'm getting her on the case to report back
No wonder she has been so quiet!! Little monkey. Strange how stomach ache can feel so much better when the computer is switched on. I've been busy finalising bits and bobs for the wedding and getting choccies ordered. Having a medieval wedding and a pig roast so not doing a sit down meal in the afternoon. Rather than favours I'm putting loads of goodies in dishes on the tables. It's cheaper!
I think we just have to go for it. What have we got to lose when things so rubbish here. I do sometimes get butterflies when I think about it but my friend in OZ said it's not fear it's nervous excitment! None of us really know where it will lead us but hey...what an adventure. I get scared sometimes cus I'm taking my parents with me so I feel the pressure that it has to work but they are also prepared to take the risk.
Bit like getting married then.....:D
Sailed SS Australis out of Southampton 1977.Arrived October in Adelaide via Melbourne 1977.Liverpool/London 1987 - 1992
Adelaide 1992 to eternity:)and one day you'll wake up and stop counting how long you've been here.
:)9 weeks in and we have no doubt that the reasons why we came here are true , we all quote crime, for the kids, respect for each other, outdoor lifestyle , more relaxed......these thing are in our oponion here for sure . It is by no means paradise , its a bit scruffy in places , and so are alot of Aussies (not a put down )but they are still happy to help or point you in the right direction . Cheers Graham
